Thailand cracks down on pro-democracy, anti-monarchy protests
       --- Quote ---
       > Pro-democracy protestors in Thailand are threatening to defy a
ban on gatherings and stage new demonstrations today. Police are
setting up checkpoints in the capital Bangkok to prevent
demonstrators from congregating. The government has declared a
state of emergency as part of a crackdown on the demonstrators.
At least 20 including three protest leaders have been arrested.
The protestors are calling for a change to the constitution and
       an overhaul of the monarchy.

Democracy is always a tyranny of a majority, but not every
dictator has been a tyrant. Some Thailander's obviously want
their own Trump and Biden ticket. Just because a monarch is a
tyrant or a useless idiot does not mean all monarchs are. Jesus
is the "King of King's" even in the west, which actually further
demonstrates the hypocrisy of western civilization and western
democracy, which some of these Thailander's wish to emulate...?

As a Thai, democracy is translated to be people's sovereignty in
Thai language, so it has good impression from almost every side
       in Thailand.

       From ประชา (bprà-chaa, “people”)
       +‎ อธิปไตย
       (à-tí-bpà-dtai, “sovereignty”).
Democracy is also translated like this in Laos and Cambodia,
which are Thailand's neighbors and have many words from Pali and
Sanskrit in their languages like Thailand.

I would actually be for democracy once all of the major social
issues are taken care of and ignoble bloodlines have been
eliminated, but not before that! Once, and if, democracy is
established in Thailand, how are the Thai peoples going to keep
out ideologies such as Social Democracy? I believe advocating
for any form of democracy prior to the things I listed in the
previous sentence are achieved is national suicide. This is what
we are currently witnessing in the U.S., is it not? National
       suicide by democracy....?
(By the way, the Thai's definition of democracy does not differ
       much from the western definition).
       --- Quote ---
       > If Social Democracy opposes a more truthful, but equally
brutal theory, the new theory will win, even if it requires a
battle first. In less than two years, I had developed a clear
understanding of both the doctrine and the technical methods the
Social Democrats used to propagate it.
       > I realized the infamous intellectual terrorism of this
movement targets the privileged-class, which is neither morally
nor spiritually a match for such attacks. They tell a barrage of
lies and slander against the individual adversary it considers
most dangerous and keep it up until the nerves of the group
being attacked give in and they sacrifice the hated figure just
to have peace and quiet again. But the fools still do not get
peace and quiet. The game begins again and is repeated until
fear of the villain becomes a hypnotic paralysis. — Adolf
       Hitler, Mein Kampf

       > This turned the idea of democracy into a ridiculous and
disgusting cliché. It was an outrage against freedom and forever
mocked the idea of brotherhood as demonstrated in the saying,
“If you will not be a comrade too, it means a broken skull for
you”. — Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf

       > At that time, the German man forgot or didn’t realize his
origin and sealed his own fate by entering the service of the
revolutionary uprising. He helped to stir up the spirit of
Western Democracy that soon deprived him of the foundation for
his own existence. Without first deciding on a common state
language, the formation of a parliamentary representative body
had laid the foundation for the end of German supremacy in the
Monarchy. From that day on the state was lost. Everything that
happened after that was the historical liquidation of an Empire.

I'm not amazed at how similar are the 2020 Thailand protests and
       the 2019 HK protests:
       - the US ambassador at the HK Embassy was relocated to the
       Bangkok embassy in March 2020
       - the Thai govt. never submitted to US pressure to condemn China
       - Thailand has never allowed the US military to set up base on
       their soil

"Milk Tea Alliance": How Thai protesters have learned from Hong
       Kongers
       --- Quote ---
       > Democracy protesters have assembled daily in Bangkok for a
week, demanding the prime minister's resignation, the redrafting
of the constitution, and a reform of Thailand's monarchy.
Demonstrators have pledged to continue gathering. They want the
prime minister to step down - in the next three days - they say.
The protests have been steadily gaining momentum since mid-July,
echoing last summer's protests in Hong Kong. And that parallel
has not been lost on activists from both places.

Thailand votes on constitutional reforms as protests continue |
       DW News
       --- Quote ---
       > Protesters are taking to the streets of downtown Bangkok on
Wednesday, one day after six people were shot with live rounds
in violent clashes with royalists and security authorities.
       >
       > The latest unrest come as lawmakers in the capital were voting
on potential changes to Thailand's constitution. The youth-led
protest movement is seeking to rewrite the constitution and oust
coup leader turned Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, as well as
reform the role of the monarchy.
       >
       > Of the seven proposals up for a vote, only one would amend the
role of the monarchy, and most lawmakers are opposed to it.
Protesters argue King Maha Vajiralongkorn's monarchy has enabled
decades of military dominance over the country.
       >
       > Voting was taking place on Wednesday by the 487 members of
parliament and 245 senators. It is expected to last several
hours. Constitutional changes require a joint vote of both
houses and any motions that pass will need second and third
votes in at least a month's time.
       >
       > Given that the entire Senate was appointed by Prayuth's junta,
soon after his 2014 coup, alterations to the role of the
monarchy seemed doomed to failure even before the vote or votes.

As a Thai, I know this.
The 2016 Constitution of Thailand has a temporary provision
allowing the ex-junta NCPO appointed senators to have the power
to vote on a prime minister in addition to the elected House of
       Representatives.
Currently, there are 250 senators and 500 representatives. The
new PM must be elected by a majority+1 currently 376 votes in
       the parliament.
Many senators question his stance on Article 112 of the Criminal
Code, which is about lèse-majéstes; and may not vote for him.
