Is the US-Saudi Arabia relationship falling apart?
Former Saudi intelligence agent Saad Al Jabri is suing
the Saudi Crown Prince in the US, alleging Mohammed Bin Salman
sent the 'hit squad' that murdered Jamal Khashoggi to kill him
in Canada.
In a rare rebuke, the State Department praised Jabri and
demanded answers about the safety of his children. Will
President Donald Trump, a staunch supporter for Bin Salman, be
forced to take action?
prince

in relation to former Saudi intelligence agent Saad al-Jabri.
The court order also covers a number of other people and

sending a hit squad to kill him two years ago. He lives in
Canada, reportedly under increased protection by police and
private security guards.
What’s Behind Saudi Arabia’s ‘Turkish Boycott’?
From coffee, to TV dramas to vacations, the head of Saudi
Arabia's Chamber of Commerce wants Saudis to reject 'everything
Turkish.' Relations between Riyadh and Ankara have soured since
the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by a Saudi hit
squad in Istanbul in 2018. The two countries are also on
opposite sides of numerous conflicts. We take a closer
look at what's behind this animosity.
The murder of Jamal Khashoggi | DW Documentary
Did the Saudi state plan the assassination of Jamal
Khashoggi? Was Khashoggi so much of a threat to the Saudi regime
that it was prepared to commit a terrible crime to get rid of
him?
This documentary reconstructs Jamal Khashoggi’s personal plans
and movements in his final days. It also examines records, leaks
and reports related to his assassination, as well as motivations
that may have led Saudi Arabia to commit such a shocking crime.
The film’s key feature is exclusive testimony from Khashoggi’s
close circle, including from his fiancée Hatice Cengiz. She
tells of her emotional struggle in dealing with his death;
hoping against hope he was still alive despite accounts of how
he was killed; the struggle to discover his fate; and the pain
of not knowing where his body is.
The documentary also uncovers how the Saudi government handed
the incident, including the attempts it made to cover up the
story. In London, Washington, Istanbul and Montreal, the film
visits and speaks with Khashoggi’s friends, security experts,
analysts and activists. The events surrounding Khashoggi's
killing and the assassination itself are reconstructed in
reenactments and with aerial photographs, graphics and
animations, including archive footage. In the words of one
official close to the case, UN Special Rapporteur Agnès
Callamard: "There is credible evidence that requires further
investigation into the involvement of senior Saudi officials in
the crime, including the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
himself."
Saudi Arabia faces calls to boycott G20 over human rights abuses
| DW News
The G20 summit of the twenty wealthiest nations and other
major emerging powers is hosted by Saudi Arabia this year. But
the country has repeatedly faced international criticism over
human rights concerns. Ahead of the online forum, members of the
European Parliament urged Commission president Ursula von der
Leyen and the president of the European Council Charles Michel
to boycott the event. But the world faces the unprecedented
challenge of coordinating an effective response to the
coronavirus crisis and the distribution of a vaccine to end the
economic fallout from attempts to stem the spread of COVID-19
infections.
Is MBS Pressuring Countries to Recognise Israel?
Prime Minister #ImranKhan hinted that some ‘friendly’
nations were pressuring him to recognise #Israel. Although not
specifically naming a country, many suspect that Saudi Arabia
and it’s Crown Prince was behind the pressure. It wouldn’t be
the first time that #MBS has pressured countries to follow his
foreign policy goals.
Saudi Arabia, allies restore full ties with Qatar: Saudi FM
Gulf leaders signed a “solidarity and stability”
agreement in Saudi Arabia as they met for the Gulf Cooperation
Council annual summit on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia on Monday announced the reopening of land borders
with Qatar after a three and a half-year spat that saw the
kingdom, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain cut
diplomatic and trade ties and impose a land, sea and air
blockade on the Gulf state.
The quartet accused Doha of, among other things, supporting
terrorist groups and being too close to Iran, allegations that
Qatar has consistently denied.
While the Saudi decision marks a major milestone towards
resolving the Gulf crisis, the path to full reconciliation is
far from guaranteed. The rift between Abu Dhabi and Doha has
been deepest, with the UAE and Qatar at sharp ideological
odds.
Saudi Arabia opens its borders with Qatar on eve of Gulf summit
Saudi Arabia is opening its land border to Qatar, a move
that could lead to a resolution of the three-and-a-half-year
diplomatic crisis that led to the blockade of the tiny Gulf
state.
The announcement on Monday came on the eve of the Gulf
Cooperation Council (GCC) summit.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt
imposed a diplomatic, trade and travel boycott on Qatar in June
2017, accusing Doha of supporting “terrorism” and having ties
with Iran they said were too close.
Qatar has repeatedly denied the allegations and said there was
“no legitimate justification” for the severance of
relations.
