Exactly.
--- Quote ---
> “This type of commentary reflects the pervasive mentality in
Western journalism of normalizing tragedy in parts of the world
such as the Middle East, Africa, South Asia and Latin America,”
the group said. “It dehumanizes and renders their experience
with war as somehow normal and expected.”
--- End Quote ---
It's not even about which part of the world. As I have
repeatedly pointed out in the past, when a "white" is murdered
in South Africa, Western journalism often covers it, but when a
"non-white" is murdered in South Africa (ie. the exact SAME part
of the world), Western journalism almost always does not cover
it. This is what has led to the impression (which rightists then
amplify) that "whites" are disproportionately murdered in South
Africa, when in reality 99% of murder victims in South Africa
are "non-white".

> there are crime victims of all ethnicities in South Africa,
yet the international news (owned by you-know-who) almost never
even reports the crimes where the victims are “non-white”. Do
you ever wonder what they are trying to portray with this kind
of selective reporting?
>
> Do you honestly believe it is safer to be a “black” South
African than a “white” South African? Can you honestly say that
if you were going to magically wake up tomorrow as a random
South African, would you – in the interest of your own security
– choose to wake up as a “black” South African?

--- Quote ---
> An average of 50 people are murdered in South Africa per day.
That means roughly 18000 per year, or 360000 in twenty years. In
the same time, the high estimate for rural “white” murder
victims is roughly 3000. To find out why I say “high estimate”,
go here:

>
> 3000/360000 = less than 1%

Daily Mail etc.. “Non-white” murder victims are 99% of murder
victims in South Africa, but nowhere near 99% of stories about
South African murders in any international newspaper.

--- Quote ---
> I am not making a point about the % of murder victims compared
to their % ethnic demographic. I am making a point about the
disparity between the % of “black” (or, for that matter,
“coloured”) murder victims and the % of NEWS REPORTS COVERING
THEIR MURDERS. They are definitely the majority of murder
victims, but definitely not the majority of news coverage
concerning murders in South Africa, which only ever seems
interested in reporting on “white” murder victims. This
indicates news bias to portray a picture that only “white”
people are on the receiving end of crime.

Back to the original article:

> David Sakvarelidze, the former deputy prosecutor general of
Ukraine, said in a BBC interview that “it’s very emotional for
me because I see European people with blue eyes and blonde hair
being killed” by Russia’s assault.
--- End Quote ---
The funny thing is, Sakvarelidze himself is not even blonde (his
face shape is what I expected, though):

Why does a non-blonde feel especially emotional about blondes
being killed?
Anyway, as I was saying here:

cross-border European conflict in decades. But some observers

In reality, of course:

--- Quote ---
> Such coverage resorts to “Orientalist concepts of
‘civilization’ that have long been present in European colonial
discourse,” said Denijal Jegic, a postdoctoral researcher in
communication and multimedia journalism at Lebanese American
University in Beirut, in an interview. “This implicitly suggests
that war is a natural phenomenon in places outside of the
Euro-American sphere, and the Middle East in particular, and
that war would take place because of a lack of civilization,
rather than due to unjust geopolitical power distribution or
foreign intervention.”
> ...
> Philip Seib, professor emeritus of journalism and public
diplomacy at the University of Southern California and author of
“Information at War: Journalism, Disinformation, and Modern
Warfare,” said such disparities in reporting have historical
roots. “One of the most striking examples came in the 1990s,
when tens of thousands of White people were dying in the Balkans
and hundreds of thousands of Black people were dying in Rwanda,
and the Balkans got much more coverage,” Seib said.

not, but the moment was eerie—of someone trying not to be racist
only to end up saying the most blatant racist thing.
