Stacey Abrams and the State of Georgia Politics
       --- Quote ---
       > Voting rights activist Stacey Abrams has launched her campaign
for governor. This will be her second run for the role after she
narrowly lost out to Brian Kemp in 2018. And with Raphael
Warnock seeking a full term in the Senate, Georgia will once
again be in the national spotlight.

It is not yet clear whom Abrams will be running against:
  HTML https://www.cbsnews.com/news/david-perdue-georgia-governor-primary-brian-kemp/
       Trump endorses Perdue:
  HTML https://secureservercdn.net/104.238.71.140/fx9.4f0.myftpupload.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/ABBB921A-8E71-487B-81FB-9430FEE3E084-1024x754.jpeg
If Perdue defeats Kemp but then is defeated by Abrams, that
would be a defeat for Trumpism. On these grounds, if we are
confident that Abrams can win against either Red candidate by
mobilizing leftist turnout, we should rather she run against
       Perdue than Kemp.

       > Abrams says Senate Democrats need to overcome Republican
opposition to new federal voting guarantees by weakening the
filibuster to allow the Democrats’ bare majority to pass new
       rules
       >
       > DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Stacey Abrams, who built her national
reputation by advocating for voting rights, is calling on
Congress to take action on federal voting rules as the Democrat
launches a second bid to become Georgia’s governor.
       >
       > Senators including Georgia Democrat Raphael Warnock, Abrams’s
close ally, have been arguing in recent days that the Senate
must try again on federal voting standards, despite earlier
       setbacks.
       >
       > In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Abrams said
senators need to override Republican opposition to new federal
voting guarantees by weakening the legislation-blocking
filibuster to allow the Democrats’ bare majority to pass new
rules. Otherwise, Abrams said, more Republican-dominated state
legislatures nationwide will adopt voting restrictions as
       Georgia did this year.
       > ...
       > Abrams insists she can still win election in Georgia next year
even if there are no changes to its new law. “I will do
everything in my power to make certain that these new onerous
voter suppression laws do not effectively block voters from
their right to vote,” she said. “And so yes, there’s absolutely
       a pathway to win.”
       >
       > Abrams said that pathway leads in a different direction from
the traditional approach to policy taken by Southern
Republicans, instead seeking to improve the prospects of those
who don’t get a fair shot today.
       > ...
       > “Leadership is about leading. It’s not about guessing, and,
more importantly, it’s not about abdicating responsibility by
saying everyone just figure it out,” Abrams said.
       --- End Quote ---
(Similarly, National Socialism is about deciding who should
reproduce, not about guessing who should reproduce, and above
all not about telling everyone to figure out for themselves
whether or not they should reproduce.)

It is interesting when you think of it: Humans selectively breed
all manner of things, plants, animals, microorganisms, etc. Yet,
selectively breeding humans has for the most part never happened
accept for within the "nobility" of any given nation or tribe.
Is this another manifestation of humanism?

       > To left-leaning Democrats, Stacey Abrams, who is making her
second run for Georgia governor, is a superstar: a nationally
recognized voting-rights champion, a symbol of her state’s
changing demographics, and a political visionary who registered
and mobilized tens of thousands of new voters — the kind of
grassroots organizing that progressives have long preached.
       >
       > “I don’t think anyone could call Stacey Abrams a moderate,”
said Aimee Allison, the founder of She the People, a progressive
advocacy group for women of color.
       >
       > Moderates would beg to differ. They see Abrams as an ally for
rejecting left-wing policies that center-left Democrats have
spurned, like “Medicare for All,” the Green New Deal to combat
climate change and the defunding of law enforcement in response
       to police violence.
       >
       > “I don’t know that anybody in the party can say, ‘She’s one of
us,’ ” said Matt Bennett, a founder of Third Way, the
       center-left group. “We can’t pretend she’s a moderate,” he
added. “But the progressives can’t say she’s a progressive and
not a moderate. We’re both kind of right.”
       >
       > The question of how to define Abrams, 48, the presumptive
Democratic standard-bearer in one of the most high-profile races
of 2022, takes on new urgency amid the current landscape of the
       party.
       > ...
       > Republicans in Georgia — who await Abrams in the general
election — are eager to denounce her as a left-wing radical out
of place in a state that was a GOP stronghold until it narrowly
tipped into the Democratic column in 2020. Gov. Brian Kemp, who
faces a fierce primary challenge in May from former Sen. David
Perdue, who has the support of former President Donald Trump,
has released five digital advertisements attacking Abrams since
she announced her campaign Dec. 1.
       >
       > “Stacey Abrams’ far-left agenda has no place in Georgia,” one
       warns ominously.
       >
       > But a review of Abrams’ policy statements and television
advertisements, and interviews with political figures who have
known her for years, reveal a leader who has carefully
calibrated her positions, making a point to avoid drifting into
       one Democratic lane or another.
       --- End Quote ---
       This is true. For example:
  HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stacey_Abrams#Political_positions
       --- Quote ---
       > Abrams is a strong supporter of Israel and rejects "the
demonization and delegitimization of Israel represented" by the
Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign," which she has
called "anti-Semitic."[97][98] But she voted against Georgia's
anti-BDS legislation that punishes companies that choose to
boycott Israel or Israeli-occupied territories.[99] Abrams
wrote, "Boycotts have been a critical part of social justice in
American history, particularly for African-Americans. As the
Anti-Defamation League notes, the origin of BDS is based in the
       anti-apartheid movement."[97]
       --- End Quote ---
Abrams is at present not good enough. Nevertheless she is still
       far better than:
  HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Perdue#Foreign_policy
       --- Quote ---
       > In March 2017, Perdue co-sponsored the Israel Anti-Boycott
Act, a bill that would make it a federal crime for Americans to
encourage or participate in boycotts against Israel and Israeli
settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories if
protesting actions by the Israeli government.[122][123]
       --- End Quote ---
We should encourage Abrams to further distinguish herself from
       Perdue by going full anti-Israel.
