Over 100 Republicans Threaten To Form New Party
       --- Quote ---
       > The day after Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) was removed from House
GOP leadership, more than 100 influential Republicans released a
call for reforms within the party and threatened to form their
own if the GOP doesn't change. NBC's Garrett Haake, Politico's
Eugene Daniels, and one of those Republicans — former New Jersey
Gov. Christine Todd Whitman — joined Stephanie Ruhle to discuss
the group's efforts. Plus, Jon Meacham places the current GOP
       divide in historical context.

Trump's Push To Punish ‘Disloyal’ Republicans Is NOT Going Well
       --- Quote ---
       > Donald Trump has been pushing, promoting, and endorsing
Republican candidates to primary the incumbents who voted to
impeach him earlier this year, and so far things are not going
the way that Trump had wanted. These candidates are struggling
to gain any ground in the polling, and this means that they are
lagging way behind in fundraising. Republicans need to take
notice of what is happening and use it to purge Trump from their
party, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

       > In 2016, I joined over 70 Republicans who urged the RNC to cut
support for Trump, a group that would be labeled #NeverTrump
Republicans. Throughout the Trump presidency this group saw how
the party failed to stand up to the immoral, and, according to
many legal experts, illegal activities of Trump while he was in
office. On January 5, 2021, after it was clear that the GOP was
going to stand by Trump in defeat, I made the decision to leave
the Republican Party and become an independent.

key component of his campaign, even creating a task force with

       > In fact, one of Youngkin's key earlier supporters and
prominent surrogate Delegate John McGuire admitted to being at
the January 6th rally (though he denies going into the Capitol).
Additionally, Youngkin has even embraced and campaigned with
State Senator and Trump wanna-be Amanda Chase, who not only was
present at the January 6th rally, but also attended the election
"cyber symposium" put on by Mike "My Pillow" Lindell.

I guess red anti-Trumpists should have tried harder in Virginia.

       > “We’re at an Unbelievably Dangerous Time in America”: Former
Bush Guy Matthew Dowd Is Trying to Turn Texas Blue
       > [...]
       > Democrats have not won a major statewide office in more than
20 years. So maybe what the party needs to knock off an
incumbent Republican is…a guy who used to be a Republican?
       >
       > That’s part of Matthew Dowd’s theory, anyway. As a political
operative, Dowd was an adviser to George W. Bush’s 2000
presidential campaign, then moved up to become the chief
strategist for the 2004 Bush-Cheney reelection run. Now Dowd has
become an improbable candidate in the Texas Democratic Party’s
lieutenant governor primary, aiming to take on Republican Dan
Patrick. “Yeah, it’s not as if I don’t know how unpleasant the
life of a candidate can be,” Dowd says with a laugh. “But we’re
at an unbelievably dangerous and crucial time in America, in the
unfolding of January 6 and how the GOP has refused to hold
anybody accountable for the greatest threat to our democracy
since the opening shots of the Civil War. And watching what’s
happening with GOP politicians in Texas, from COVID and the
electric grid failure to women’s rights getting taken away and
crazy gun laws, I just kept asking myself, ‘What more can I
       do?’”
       >
       > Dowd’s disenchantment with the party is not new: He split with
Bush, loudly and publicly, in 2007 over the handling of the Iraq
war. He spent most of the next decade as an Independent,
consultant, and TV commentator, before becoming a Democrat—a
return to the party where he’d started in the ’80s, before
       joining forces with Bush.
       > [...]
       > “It’s kind of like a man-bites-dog-story: George W. Bush’s
campaign manager running for Texas L.G. as a Democrat,” says
Sean Clegg, a senior adviser on California governor Gavin
Newsom’s successful recall campaign and on Kamala Harris’s 2020
presidential campaign. “Texas is moving demographically, but
it’s culturally hard to win as a Democrat there. Sometimes you
need shock troops to make progress.”

It's concerning that most of the high-energy "shock troops"
against Trumpist Republicans (e.g. Lincoln Project) are
       non-Trumpist Republicans, rather than leftists...

I don't even think the left could fight it's way out of a wet
       paper-bag at this point!?
If a "two-party" western democracy system is really your thing
and you think it's the best thing that's ever happened to
civilization you would atleast think you'd put in the work to
make sure both of your parties stay healthy, I would have
       thought?
