New Trade Association - Viability & Benefits

For sake of visibility I have copied my earlier comments from
within another thread on this forum that relates to the above
subject specifically.
The establishment of an independent trade association, subject
to agreed terms of reference, meets with my approval. The big
difficulty, as has already been pointed out, would be setting up
and maintaining its integrity & neutrality.
Anyhow a suggested name for the Association? Mine would be
"Independent Trophy Retailers & Engravers Association".
Perhaps with the benefit of a subscription fee to cover
overheads a newly retired player from the industry, with the
help of say 3 panel members (one from the north of the country,
one from the midlands and one from the south who are replaced
annually) would be the way forward?
Is there really an appetite for such an association, would
enough members of this forum be willing to be one of the
Officers? Would you pay a subscription fee, what benefits would
you wish to derive?
I know we are all getting ready for the "silly season" but if
others forum members could let us have their thoughts that would
be great.

What are you trying to achieve in setting up the association? I
don't think we have enough issues that we need addressing do we?
I can only think of the "Glenway situation" as an issue that's
cropped up where we need to stand together and it's been fine
discussing it on the forum.
What would be the benefits of joining such an association?

If done in the right way I imagine there are lots of benefits to
be had from a retailers' association.
What is our collective voice on any matter at the moment? Nil.
It may be that the power and benefits of the association would
be greater in the form of a cooperative.
Buying power and influencing suppliers may be the obvious
benefits but there are all sorts of ways retailers can help each
other without jeopardising their own business interests ...
whether or not a largely online retailer can be integrated in to
such an association is unlikely as everyone would see them as a
threat but for offline retailers seems like no down side - but
entry costs would need to be minimal (after all what are the
costs) or else it would be a non starter.
