We have found that so many of our customers are now not coming
into our Hogh Street shop as they prefer to buy online, so this
will only add to the problem. So do we join this venture to try
and counter our loss

personally we stopped using glenway a few years ago, we could
see the way they were going then, band together as one and use
the other wholesalers more for this season and show the power of
the retailer.

I have been so busy with end of year awards, I had not really
looked into what Glenway are going to do with their website,
surely they cannot be going direct?
HBS tried this a few years ago and all the trade turned their
backs on HBS and they never recovered and eventually went out of
business. That was of course before the days of the internet and
things as we all know are very different now and probably
Glenway could survive with just a retail site but they cannot
supply the trade as well. I'm sure Tim at Glenway will have a
good explanation, they are doing very well just the way they
have been operating, why change....I'm sure the Glenway stand
will be busy in January fending off questions.

It certainly raised an eyebrow, would have been nice of them to
give some indication of what they were up to, I will be
considering where to put my business, I can see an advantage
possibly, as I near retirement age, I could keep some existing
customers, and not get my hands dirty. But as someone has
already said, You are either trade or retail. MIXED
FEELINGS..... :(

Plenty of other so called wholesalers sell direct to any tom,
dick, or person with the cash!!
Simple solution, Don't buy anything from them at all!
They will soon make a decision as to if they are ethical or not?
How dare they dictate as to what to charge for engraving?
Anyone who sticks with them must be either lazy or thinking of
selling up.

This has been happening here in Ireland for a few years so I
moved my business away from these suppliers, as people have said
your either one or the other.

Glenway dont give a toss about there customers i had been using
them for 20 years but when they first brought out the
welovetrophies.com book we saw that they were dictating
engraving prices i spoke to Glenway about it but they were not
bothered about it at all i was like "well thats loyalty for you"
and have not used them since.

Totally agree - no customer loyalty whatsoever - we had to drop
using the catalogue and only use them if we really have to,
because of how they have been supplying non trophy retail
companies, such as youth groups, who then sell to their smaller
groups at a price way below rrp because they are supposed to be
non profit making organisations. It makes us look too dear
then, and we can't compete with that.
Also have a problem with them supplying 'start ups' who are
literally on your doorstep and using trophy sales as a 'side
line', when they have been your main business for 40 years!

I agree with most of whats been said and to me its just a way to
get a list of our customers and then they could approach them
directly. I have decided not to use them in the future

Future My Ass, Who's future is that then? Staggered by Glenways
2018 approach. Nothing new there then. We all know who pulls the
strings at Silvertrophy & Glenway have opperated a direct
service to end user for retailers for ages. More fool those that
use this. TBH though, they're probably all at it . I lost a 7K a
year football league order to a wholesaler years ago so
naturally boycotted them for over 6 years. That end user now
uses a variety of wholesalers (because he has been given excess
to the trophex show & formed a Ltd company for the cover) to
supply his football league, charges retail to the league &
pockets the difference without the overheads of a retail space.
Truth is, I'm starting to do business again with the wholesaler
that shafted me regardless. Nature all of commerce is, we all
want to earn more & do less for it. I think Tim's plan is highly
flawed though to reap any real extra significant business. They
say to tell your customer to enter your retailers code, and the
end user customer will get a 2% discount & they will charge for
engraving & delivery. The retailer will supposedly receive 30%
of nett profit. LOL, what customer spending good money is going
to settle for a 2% discount & pay delivery & engraving on top.
Customers are budget conscious and those spending the best
money, demand the biggest discounts. This sounds like one of the
biggest (if not the) wholesalers going blatently retail &
supplying the bedroom / garage supplier who cannot do their own
engraving. I cannot operate on those margins and this is taking
the retailers customer away. Next time they order they will
remember the website but forget the retailers code hence going
direct to Glenway. If you can't fullfill a last minute order,
apologies politly & send them to your local Timpsons, that will
probobly ensure they come back to you next time (with more lead
time) when they need trophies & engraving. We are living in a
digital age and people are lazy, so we are all going to have to
cope with this. I went to China direct as a a retailer (out of
necisity for a few limited products) years ago and it's the best
move I ever made. My business would be sunk without my Chinese
suppliers & a fine bottle of vintage whisky is on the way to him
right now. If you value your business MARCH WITH YOUR FEET,
there are traditional wholesalers out there with ethics and it's
there you should concentrate the bullk of your business. As the
chinese man might say " Do not let Fox look after Chiken coop"
;D ( thats a purposefull typo BTW) OR we could all start up our
own cooperative, we could call it We Love Profit.com or
NOTGlensWay.com ;)
I'm not giving out the welovetrophies catalogue this year, but I
will still use them. I'm not cutting off my nose to spite my
face again.
