What's everyone doing?

Folks,
It's a pity this forum has gone so quiet. Now might be a good
time to rekindle some activity as we face a world of turmoil
healthwise, socially and in business.
I closed up my business at the start of the week bringing my
computer, printer and accounts home to set up in a spare room.
All done & dusted now. Who knows when I'll be open again.
If I cut things to the bone I reckon my business can survive for
about 4-5 months taking only what I need to pay for personal &
business commitments. And of course paying the suppliers I
presently owe money. Suddenly that £3k seems an awful lot to be
paying out when there's nowt coming in.....
In the light of so many businesses (non essential IMHO) both
related to our trade and beyond sending me emails about hanging
in there we're still working to deliver I find myself rather
conflicted.
To be honest my business ceased a few weeks ago. The only things
I was receiving were cancellations and delays of orders.
Absolutely no business coming through the door via any channel -
phone, email or webstore.
I'm kinda curious to know if I am alone. Are some of you getting
orders through and if so what sort are they?
Maybe if some of you other trophy engravers/suppliers are busy
then perhaps these 'still working' operations are justified and
I'm the one out of kilter. If that's the case sobeit.
I'm just having difficulty reconciling the whole stay at home
unless it's justified to go out advice we're getting. We're
hardly an essential service at the moment.
To be honest I am making a mental note of the companies that are
still mailing me with 'deals' whether they are trade or not and
am subscribing furiously from many databases.
I reckon we have a lot of pain to go through yet........
Stay safe, stay well.

A somewhat delayed reply David. Not good times for the trophy
game.
Let's hope this is over and done with in time to get some of the
football business if clubs rearrange their seasonal
presentations to the start of the new season.
In light of the reasons this forum sprung up in the first place
i'm intrigued, to see what peoples views are regarding this
Leicestershire based supplier
HTML https://www.trophiesplusmedals.co.uk/
From what I can see they are selling only Glenway products, are
offering a next day service for orders placed before 2pm, will
price match and are still open for business despite Glenway
shutting down completely last week?
I've asked Glenways sales staff if there is any connection, if
this is them in another coat, and the topic is quickly changed.
A recent Glenway communication stated........
Although we are working remotely we find ourselves in the
fortunate position of having a colleague live virtually next to
our warehouse so have decided to keep despatching goods, glass
engraving etc.
Hmm... ???

Annette,
Thanks for replying.
Hopefully we'll all be able to restart (more likely kickstart)
our businesses in the not too distant future - 4 to 5 weeks
maybe? Who knows really....
As far as your Trophies Plus Medals concerns I'm not much use. I
do very little of Glenway's glass/crystal range and am
unfamiliar with any of the trophy spread they offer.
I did notice, however, that much of their crystal and glass is
from Crystal Galleries in Middlesbrough. Haven't gone through
everything for comparison but seems a reasonable amount to my
eye. Certainly more than just Glenway products on offer in the
glass ranges.
Stay well, stay safe.

Hello everybody, I hope you are all healthy so far and try to be
optimistic.
Since March 11th the crisis has hit our industry in Germany
hard. Orders have fallen by over 95% since that day, and several
orders have been cancelled. Now it is being examined and
discussed how to gradually ease the restrictions we have had for
a few weeks.
Unfortunately, the prospects for our industry are anything but
good.
In Germany as well as in other countries in Europe, there is
currently talk that larger events with several hundred people
may not take place before September. Some countries or even
politicians in Germany are talking about even later dates.
This means for our industry that we are 6 months or more without
significant sales.
Personally, I assume that if there is no earlier relaxation for
events, our industry will already be in extreme difficulties in
June.
However, I see the greatest danger in the overly fast openings
in the fact that there could be a second shutdown and the
situation for our industry will continue into next year.

Christian,
I'm inclined to agree with you. The trade is in for a lot more
pain & disruption beyond the relaxing of lockdown requirements.
This is going to go on for months yet as there will undoubtedly
be contimuing distancing requirements and a restriction of
numbers at events/gatherings.
The timing of any relaxation will be critical.
Trying stay positive amidst it all.
Stay safe, stay well.

David
