Well the forecast for today was a south wind at 6 to 12 mph and
dry, we got the wind and lots of rain. Today was the last chance
to set up reels and get your choice of rod ready for light line
day, which is in two weeks. Due to the wet conditions power had
to dialed back as there was some thumb slip as well as a
slippery oche, so yes we had a few crack offs. With the south
wind and livestock in other fields we set up in the upper field
and cast across the hill, it meant the court was straight down
the field enabling us to be able to set up a plug court too.
With injuries and work keeping some members away we got through
the round quickly, with Stevie managing a PB on the fixed spool
and 75g lead.
results for 14/11/21
Stevie 18g plug = 118y
75g = 219y PB
150g = 258y
Benny 75g = 175y
50g = 164y
Sean 18g plug = 155y
Louis 150g = 170y
MC 100g = 212y
75g = 179y

Today was our light line event, where we cast 100g, 75g and 50g
leads. The forecasted wind was for west turning north west,
which it did and this enabled us to set up in the lower flatter
field casting away from the house. It was a cold wind, but a
good casting wind for a change as it created a few pb's and two
new Ulster records on the fixed spool for Stevie, well done
mate. It didn't go as well for other members as there was
several snap offs and a broken reel, which I'll say no more
about :-X ;D.

well today was our last meet of 2021, which meant it was our
secret pairs event. Your free to cast any lead and its your
furthest cast that counts. At the end of the day names are drawn
from a hat to see who your paired with, there was prizes on
offer of a large selection boxes for the winners and a wooden
spoon for the losing pair, there was also a small selection box
for center line prize. as you can imaging the craic was great
with everyone egging each other on, but with a wet start power
was dialed back to prevent thumb slip but I think it was also to
get the center line prize as there was a few contenders. The
wind was light, well within legal limits meaning Stevie was able
to get a 18g plug record, well done mate.
Results for 12/12/21
Graeme 214y
Tommy 203y
MC 216y
Benny 190y
Louis 170y
Sean 202y
pairings
Benny and Sean = 392y
Tommy and Graeme = 417y
Louis and MC = 386y

what a start to the new casting year, heavy rain turning the
ground into a slippery mud bath and with people slipping while
walking to and from the oche you can imagine how bad it was was.
With safety in mind and not wanting folks falling on there rears
while casting as you couldn't put power into the cast as you
just slipped it was decided to call it a day early and no casts
were recorded. Lets hope it dries up a bit for the next time.

With a south west wind the only field we could use was the upper
field with the slope, so we set up the court to use the wind,
all 7 to 10mph of it to our advantage which meant casting on the
slope but facing downhill. The ground was a lot firmer this week
and we got a full days casting in, with most members practicing
the 175g as our first league meet is in two weeks time. A big
well done to Graeme and Louis who managed pbs today, a big jump
for them both. Thanks to all who helped with the court at the
end of the day its greatly appreciated.
Results for the 23-1-2022

well today was our event of the year and the start of the club
league, thats right 175g day and what a day it was. Heavy rain ,
snow and hail and a strong wind but that was a cross court wind
as it never changed from westly all day. We had set the court up
in the upper field casting across the hill with a sloping oche
as the wind was meant to change to a northwest direction but it
never did, it even died off at one stage when the rain
disappeared. With all the rain the oche soon turned muddy
causing a few slips as it was sloping downhill a bit but
thankfully no one fell or was hurt, we did have a few snap offs
but these where found quickly. Top bombing by Stevie saw him
take first place followed by Graeme managing a fine cast at the
end of the day, well done lads.
results for 6/2/22, 175g day
Stevie = 254y
Graeme = 219y
MC = 208y
Tommy = 185y
Benny = 184y
Louis = 172y

it was good to get back into the field again after the covid lay
off but the lack of practice showed. The weather was beautiful,
bright sunshine high pressure and a gentle breeze, a great day
for a day in the fresh air. The forecasted breeze was a south
east direction so we set up in the bottom corner of the top
field and angled the court to enjoy what wind there was, it
meant casting across the hill but at least we could see the
flags.

Today was our annual tribute to the late Terry Carroll, the
master rod maker from Zziplex, the TRC. In this event we cast
all 4 core leads, one of which must be an off the ground cast.
With there being 4 casts per lead and 4 leads it was going to be
a long day with lots of walking ,there will some sore bodies
tomorrow. Although we had high pressure over our heads, giving
us a dry day for a change, we also had a steady south east wind
gusting to 20mph. This wind direction meant setting up in the
flatter part of the upper field and casting up and over the
hill. With a few members out with injuries and poor Graeme
recovering from covid, only 5 members competed in this years
TRC, with one member managing to finally get not one but two
leads over the 200y line, well done Louis. Top bombing by Stevie
saw him take the win with a total aggregate of 1027y,
congratulations mate.

Results 17/04/22
Well with MC being absent due to family commitments it was up to
the rest of us to organise today's casting. With cattle in most
of the fields, the 1 field that was available to use had some
property at the far end, so it was anticipated and decided that
today would be an 18g Plug casting day. The field is nice and
flat and although the day started off flat calm, the wind grew
steadily during the day to around 13 or 14mph by mid afternoon,
and blew straight down the court from the SSE for most of the
day, with a slight crosswind at times, but it was dry and mild.
Pressure was around 1012mb. With much less walking involved due
to the shorter distances being cast, we got plenty of rounds in,
and packed up early around 2.45pm just as the wind started to
really pick up, along with the rain. Well done on the PB's. Good
PB for Louis, 1st time casting the plug officially.
All distances 18g, PBs (Wind Assist)
Sean 168y
Stevie 133y PB
Louis 115y PB (Fixed Spool)
Benny 112y
Tommy 111y PB
Graeme 103y

With our normal field being out of action as it had cattle and
calves in it we had to use the field facing the house, with a
south east wind predicted we set up in the far end and set up
the plug casting gear. The forecasted wind was meant to blow
towards the house but it changed throughout the day to a
crosswind or blowing in our faces and in fact we had no wind at
all sometimes, when I say wind I meant light breeze as it barely
went above 4mph. So with a cyclonic breeze and high pressure
there would be no massive casts made. Anyhow we had fun with the
18g plugs and with the rounds coming thick and fast it was
decided to pack up early before the rain came on.
results for 1/5/2022
all used a 18g plug
Graeme = 89y
Benny = 87y
MC = 83y
Tommy = 82y
Louis = 76y
