today was our 125g event for which 5 members turned out to cast.
The forecast was for a dry morning with winds up to 18mph going
in a south east direction, this meant casting up the hill but
from a flat oche for a change. As it was a competition we only
have 10 casts, which was a good thing as a few members were
injured, Tommy's shoulder was playing up and Louis had put his
back out, I hope you boys heal up quickly. The start of the day
the wind was light but grew in strength but changed direction as
we got the the last 3 rounds, it started to go across the court
blowing lines out to the left. Well done to Graeme on the win
and to Louis who on his last cast managed to steal 3rd place.
Once again thanks to all who helped set up and take down the
court.

today was a lovely crisp autumn day, not good for casting as
there was little to no wind and high pressure so distances are
not great. It was good to see Stevie back casting again and he
got the best cast of the day, you still got it old boy. We had a
visitor today up to improve his cast, welcome Davy hope you had
a good time and well done on the big jump in your cast, he ended
the day on 132yards on 100g lead, using fishing gear too. as
mentioned the distances were not great as some of us are
recovering from injury and others had a cold but we cast on no
less and had fun too. The breeze was coming in a south west
direction so the oche was place at the brow of the hill and we
cast down towards the gate. It was a sloping oche so swings had
to be adjusted a bit to save us hitting the deck. Once again
thanks to all who helped set up and dismantle the court, I
appreciate the help.

today was our members 100g event and what a strange day it was,
first of all the wind changed direction as we set up the court
so a quick move to the bottom of the field was required. This
meant a sloping oche and casting up and over the hill, not that
often we get a north west wind. Speaking of the wind it blew
steady all day, at about 8 to 12mph, until the last 3 round when
it died off completely. We had the usual craic and a few crack
offs but some faired worse than others, poor Graeme had a
nightmare of a day and did Tommy but he managed to pull it back
at the end. Davy was the daycaster and he was trying out a new
yuki rod, looks like a nice bit of fishing kit. Well done to
Stevie on the win with a nice cast of 245y. Once again thanks to
everyone who helped with the court and in finding the crack
offs. With the recent damp weather the field has become soft so
from now on only 4x4s will be allowed in.

Today was meant to a day of high winds, forecasted to reach
45mph, well it didn't happen, what we got was a steady 20 to
25mph with a few stronger gusts. Well at least it was dry and
the wind was blowing south west direction which meant we set up
at the top of the hill casting towards the gate. There was 3
members and a daycaster today and we did the best we could, top
bombing goes to Stevie who finished the day with two new pbs
which are also new Ulster records and he got himself a new
290yard badge. All records have to measured by tape to give a
true results and its more accurate than the range finder. Our
daycaster ( soon to be a member) was Rath who is learning the
pendulum and is doing well. Unfortunately we had to pack up
early as some of us had family matters to attend. Thanks to all
who helped with the court and measuring up.

Today was our first event of 2025 and the lack of practice
showed on some of us. The weather was kind to us with a dry day
and Southy winds from 7 to 12mph. We had a couple of new faces
today, so welcome to Jim and young Camryn and welcome back Ryan.
With the field being soft no cars where allowed in so it meant
carrying the court to the top field and the whole way to where
we place the oche. As mentioned we had a Southy wind today so
set up in the top field casting from the flat end across the
hill. Seeing as no car where allowed in the field tackle boxes
were lightened which meant someone forgot there reels (Benny),
carrying less meant fewer rods too so most stuck with the same
lead all day and Graeme was casting with his fishing gear. Well
done to all who managed a PB today.

today was practice day for the 175g event in two weeks, so
everyone was casting the big lead. We has a southwest wind
turning westerly forecast with light rain until 11am, so we set
the court up in the top field and angled it downhill. As
predicted the rain stopped after 11am but the wind died as soon
as the court was set up, so no wind and high pressure didn't
help matters. Some of us had a good day with Rath hitting
another pb of 181y, well done that man, while others had
difficulty finding the court.

Today was members 175g day and 4 casters showed up, injuries and
romantic weekend keeping others at bay, well it is valentines
weekend after all, just us old married guys were allowed to
cast. The forecast was for a south east wind of 23mph and rain
from 2pm, we got a easterly wind (cross court) and rain at
12.30pm. Given the forecast we set up in the upper field casting
from flat ground up the hill, now this field has been covered in
silage so was a bit slippy under foot and add in the early rain
it became very difficult to cast. We decide to cut short the
casting by one round and head for the cars given the conditions
a wise choice. Anyway top marks to Stevie on a fine display of
casting winning today with a 245y cast, the battle for second
was where the action was, as each cast saw Louis and myself
change positions. Thanks to all for helping set up take down and
move the court.

Today was a normal field day in which casters can cast any lead
they choose, with the TRC event soon some practice their ground
cast. We had one daycaster today and a welcome return of Cain
who managed a pb today, well done lad. Now for the weather
report, it was forecasted to be a south west wind which meant
setting up the oche at the top of the hill and aiming the court
towards the gate, this meant a slight slope to the oche but we
are used to it by now. The wind was mainly south west most of
the day but did shift a bit towards the last few rounds, it was
a steady 10/11mph with gust of 15 mph so not a bad day and it
stayed dry for a change.

Today we ran the TRC memorial in honor of the late great Terry
Carroll of Zziplex, basically we cast all 4 core leads but one
lead has to be a ground cast. We had a glorious day with very
high pressure, lots of sun and very little breeze. The breeze
blew in a north east direction so we got set up in the flatter
field, casting away from the barns. There was 10 casters in
total, 8 members and 2 daycasters . This is an open competition
so anyone can partake but we only had 8 competitors who entered
the TRC and with 4 casts per lead it was going to be a long day.
The first lead up was the mighty 175g which all competitors
choose to choose as their ground cast lead and a big well done
to Gareth who managed a pb on it. Conditions where tough but as
we got to the lighter leads it got tougher and folks where
starting to tire, so everyone distances were down on what they
normally are but Rath managed to get a 100g pb. Top bombing goes
to Stevie for some fine casting in tough conditions to take top
spot, the main battle was for third place with the trophy
changing hand throughout the day.

Today was a normal field day or so we thought, we arrived to
cattle in the normal field and the only field free was the one
beside the house. For safety reasons we set up at the house end
of the field and cast into the wind. The weather was great,
sunshine and a 9 to 15 mph wind both in our faces, not to be
stopped we cast into the wind which meant a heavy lead day and a
chance to work on our cast. Even though the wind was against us
two casters managed a pb, well done to Lin and Graeme. Top
bombing go to Stevie who cast the 200g lead an impressive 238
yards into the wind. All in all it was a tough day but at least
it was dry.
