we had a good turnout today with a few daycasters and 5 members
present for the clubs final lead event of the year, thats right
it was 100g day. There was a good breeze blowing today and after
a while it swung to directly south which meant the oche was set
up in the top field and we could cast from the flat across the
hill. As expected with everyone trying to cast their best there
was a few crack offs but thankfully they all were found, thanks
to everyone who helped locate the. Top dog goes to Stevie who
won on the day and once again takes the trophy for club
champion, well done mate. Good to see Jonny Gilbert back casting
again, hope to see you again mate.

today was our last meet for 2022, and with 4 members in
attendance the rounds would be quick. Now for the weather, a
north east breeze was forecast and with other fields in use we
had to set up in the top field and that meant casting uphill.
The breeze was freezing and not that strong so it was a day to
work on techniques and try to improve our casts. As the rounds
came and went quickly it was decided to pack up early and head
home, which was a good plan as after we left the heavens opened
and it was snowing for a while before the sleet arrived. All in
all a good day was had and I am sure we are looking forward to
getting back after the new year.

Today was our first meet of 2023 and what a day, the forecast
was a south west wind of 15 to 25mph and dry until 3pm, rained
at 2pm. With a south west wind we could use the top field and
angle the court down the hill for a change, the wind was
constant all day with a few gusts of 20mph+ added to the low
pressure there was hope for better casting. Once everyone had
arrived and the court was ready we set off, most of us started
with the 175g as thats the first event in the league next month.
As the day went on a few of us dropped to lighter leads to see
if the wind would help gain distance. Once the rain started we
had a few casts but it was turning muddy so it was decided to
call it a day, it was good to get back out field casting again
and the lack of practice tells, roll on two weeks time. Thanks
to everyone would helped with the court and looking for crack
offs. I would also like to welcome Chris Pritchard as he is the
newest member of the club, its good to see you get back into
casting again mate.

todays event was cancelled as the melted snow had left the field
very muddy and unsafe to cast in.

today started off cold and frosty but soon turned out bright and
mild. It was a day of high pressure and a decent wind of 12 to
16mph blowing in a south west direction, which meant using the
top field and casting downhill. There was a worry that the venue
would still be muddy after the rain but it was fine apart from
the entry point which was a bit soft. We where a few members
down today due to injuries and work issues but we did have a few
day casters to increase numbers. It was a fine days casting with
a few pbs so well done lads. Most of us spent the day casting
the 175g lead as our first event is in two weeks and its the
175g we will be casting.

today was our 175g lead members event, the first event of the
year. It was a dry day and the forecast gave a south west wind
for most of the day but unfortunately the wind was in a west
south west direction with an average speed of 13mph, gusting to
20mph. This meant a cross court wind, so once again we set up in
the top field and angled the court to try and make the most of
the wind. Casting from the top the hill was made more difficult
as the field has been treated with silage making it slippy
underfoot, so power had to dialed back a bit but we gave it our
best shot. The cross wind made the line bow out to the right
meaning we had a longer walk down the hill as the line caught on
bits of grass. Well done to our day caster Rath who casting a
slosh 20 and 25lb line managed a PB of 140 yards, quite a jump
up from his last visit. All in all it was a good day with Stevie
taking first place and the second place battle going down the
last cast. Thanks to all for setting up and taking down the
court and sorry for the extra walk as we weren't allowed cars in
the field.

With a forecast of north west wind of about 12mph we got into
the flatter field today, so we had a nice flat oche to cast from
and short grass. Unfortunately the forecast was wrong and we had
a west wind all day, but we angled the court not that it helped
as each round you got a big bow of line out to the left. Added
to the crosswind there was high pressure so it was a day for the
heavier leads. As today was practice day for the upcoming TRC
event most of us started with a ground cast (mine needs a lot of
work). We had two PBs today from our daycasters, Rath up his by
15 yards and Ryan casted a 150g for the fist time at the field
and managed 172 yards, well done lads I can see more PBs for
these boys in the future.

Today was our TRC competition where you have to cast all 4 core
leads and one has to be an off the ground cast. We run this
annual event in memory of Terry Carroll the creator of Zziplex
rods, its a fun event but can be difficult to try and get 4
counting casts. There was 8 casters in total so the plan was for
3 rounds on each lead, which would allow time to look for
crack-offs of which there was a few, as everyone tried to get a
good score. We had a visitor up from Dublin, young Cian who did
well for his first time on a court earning himself 4 PB's. Now
for the weather, it was dry with high pressure and a gentle
breeze which blew across court for the first few rounds, but
thankfully it straightened up and and blew down the court for
the lighter leads. The southerly breeze meant we where in the
top field casting across the hill, at least the walk back to the
oche was easier. Top rod was Stevie with some great casts,
battle for second went down to the last round and poor Chris had
a nightmare on the 100g which meant he lost out on second place.
The battle for third was closer still with Benny taking the
honors by 4 yards. All in all a fun day but a long hard day,
hope to see you all next time.

today was a normal field day for us and with a northwest breeze
forecasted it meant we could get into one of the flatter fields.
The weather was bright and sunny with a gentle breeze, just
enough to ruffle the flags, but the breeze soon turned into a
cross court breeze before turning southwest which meant it was
in our faces. It was at this point we were flogging a dead horse
as not only did we have no wind to speak of it was also high
pressure, might have been a nice day but it was tough casting
conditions, so we packed up early and the 4 of us headed home
for an early bath. As mentioned it was tough today so it was a
day to work on technique and to see if reels where running ok.
Saying this Benny was back casting, I tried out my full
tournament xl and Graeme played with a penn supermag, poor
Tommy put a reel on with a birds nest from last time and had to
walk it out.

today was a normal field day and there where 7 casters today. It
was a warm day and we even had some sunshine, unfortunately this
meant we were in an area of high pressure with light winds. We
set up in the upper field as it was the only suitable field for
a southeast breeze, this meant casting across the hill, easier
walking for a change. Once again Cian from Dublin joined us and
managed a new PB and to get a cast over the 200yard line, well
done lad. All in all it was a fun but tough day casting. Thanks
to everyone who helped with the court and measuring.
