He does for plugs and 1oz he uses a profile for light leads and
a 15ft prototype too. Tommy used a tip tornado light, not sure
about the rest.
Bill I am not saying a profile evo can't be used for light leads
but I tend to lose feel of the lighter lead using it

Today was the clubs 150g day and what a wonderful day it was,
but not for casting. Little wind which blew cross court or even
in our faces at times, added high heat and pressure meant a fun
day at the oche. We where casting in the top field and with the
predicted wind direction of ESE the court was set up over the
hillside, giving us a slight incline to cast over. Anyhow 6
members showed up to do battle in the hard conditions with only
two crack offs all day. Top spot goes to Stevie Ratcliffe who
managed an impressive 230yard cast, but the battle for 3rd spot
was tough with last cast Tommy jumping 6 yards to take it.
150g results.
Benny = 183 yards
Tommy = 190 yards
Scrab =185 yards
Bobby =172 yards
Stevie = 230 yards
MC = 197 yards

Completely understand the profile Evo I know is not for really
light leads instead I'll be using the Penn pit viper 2-4loz and
Leeda icon light 2-4oz these rods more suitable as I've used
them before.Sorry about confusion and thanks so much for advise

Just saw video great casting and great time ! Looked like
everyone had fun and congrats to Steve ! This is what's it's
all about a great casting time !

Today was always going to be a low turn out with holidays,
injuries and with it being Father's Day. We have four casters
turn up and only two recording. It proved to be a very difficult
day with the forecasted wind not showing up at least it blew
south which meant no cross wind. The big problem was the grass
as it was knee height causing problems with the back swing but
we did our best and practised for light line day. Hope the grass
is cut in two weeks time.

The 1st of July was meant to be the clubs annual light line day.
That's where we cast the 50g, 75g and 100g as they all use
0.25mm mainline; the lightest mainline the club uses. Apon
reaching the fields it was immediately apparent that the grass
had not been cut and that we could only use the top sloping
field. This was going to be a hard day. We had no option other
than to set up the oche at the road end of the field thanks to
the wind direction and for the forecast for later in the day.
It was never going to be a strong wind but enough that you
didn't want to cast into it.
The height of the grass was the real icing of the cake, as if
contending with the slope at the oche wasn't enough of a
headache for us. But we've been here before more than a few
times so we chose the spot for the oche and got on with it. We
could have held the light line event if the grass had been cut
but it wasn't and with the slope added into the equasion it was
decided to postpone the event until the next meeting on the 14th
July. It was decided that today would be used as a practice day
for the light line event and for the "Skinnies" at the following
event.
Combating the oche was not fun and a few trenches were dug along
the way as weights made contact with the ground. Modified casts
were modified some more but no-one was happy with it and having
to walk through the jungle to get our weights back tore the legs
out of everyone. Surprisingly there were only two snap-offs
during the first four rounds but it was decided that we couldn't
continue until they were found. We spent the next few hours
walking the field trying to find them and that lead to the day
being abandoned. It was a nightmare trying to find anything in
that grass and we weren't prepared to risk anymore snap-offs as
the fields are used for animals to graze in.
Hopefully the grass will have been cut for our next event in two
weeks and for the Ultralite or skinnies event on the following
event.

Results for the light line event 15/7/18
Today we finally held the clubs Light Line event. Of course
after having weeks of great sunny weather to bask in we were
faced with a whole day of rain and very little wind - typical!
Still, we were able to get into No.2 field which is flat and
finally the grass had been cut so at least that was something.
The idea behind the light line challenge is to cast the three
main weights that use 0.25mm main line. Those weights are the
50g, 75g and 100g. The competiton consists of 4 casts by each
caster on each weight, with the longest cast of each weight
being added together to give you your aggregate distance. The
longest aggregate distance overall is the winner of the event.
The day started with 4 rounds of casting on the 100g followed by
another 4 on the 75g then finally 4 on the 50g. As an added
bonus there is also a joker round at the end of the main casting
where each of todays 6 casters can have one extra cast on which
ever weight was their poorest. Unfortunately only one caster
benefited from the joker round - well done MC!

Today we held our annual "Ultralite" challenge. Each year we
have a series of dedicated events and today was for the
Ultralites, or skinnies. The ultralites are the two lightest
weights that the club casts, a 1oz lead weight and the 18g
plastic plug. This event also has the distinction of being one
of the more fun days on our calendar. It also stirs things up
and drags casters out of their more general comfort zones. To
cast these weights effectively you have to think about what
you're doing and be able to adapt you casting style to new
timing, acceleration and overall control. Throw into the mix
using different rods and reels than the caster is used to and it
all adds up to an interesting and (sometimes) fun day. It
certainly takes the caster out of "auto mode".
As an added interest to the day there is also the "annual grudge
match" held between Mr M.C. and Benny, the UCC court marshal.
This is a challenge that is decided apon on the day and takes
into account any variables that might arise. Today it would
consist of only casting the 18g plug. But, seeing that there
was a vacant club record for the 18g plug for fixed spool reels,
it was decided that MC and Benny would do 5 casts each using
first the fixed spool reel and then another 5 each using the
multipliers. Their longest cast using each reel would be added
together and the caster with the longest overall distance would
win the prize of a bottle of whisky. Also the longest fixed
spool cast would be the club's new fixed spool 18g record.
Well, in the end Benny managed to find those few extra yards to
take the grudge match, for the second year in a row and claim
the new fixed spool 18g club record. Well done Benny! M.C.,
you have a year to work on you skinny casting and stop Benny
grabbing the hat-trick!
