Results for Ulster Casting Club

After a long absent from the field due to lambing we finally got
back to casting. With injuries and work taking a toll we only
had five members turn up to work out the rust. With a nice
southerly wind we set up in the top field which meant casting
across the rise. The wind was steady most of the day with a few
strong gusts but the lack of practice showed with most and we
failed to get the most out of the wind. With the 150g day and
light line day coming up we worked on our 150g casts then some
of us played with the light leads for a while. We where lucky
with the rain as apart from a few spots it stayed dry until we
started to pack up then the heaven opened and we got drenched.
All in all it was great to get out and flex some carbon.

Benny 150g - 192y
1oz - 141y
MC. 150g - 212y
125g - 212y
75g - 188y
50g - 162y
Scrab. 125g - 204y
Bobby. 125g - 200y
Stevie. 150g - 255y

Interesting distances particularly the 1oz -141yds ! And the
75g - 188yards and 50g - 162 yards that's some distance with
such lightweights ! What's the world record for these weight
classes ?.really impressive I must say 1oz at 141yards is quite
something ! Could you put please share the rods, reel and line
in these lightweight class would. be interesting to know also
what kind of casting style ?

Hi Bill. Benny was using a carp rod with an added butt section
on the bottom! Line was most probably 0.25mm main line and
0.35mm shock leader for the 1 oz but not sure.
Yeah, MC will know more when he comes along though I have never
cast under 100g myself, as the crackoffs go a long long way!
Not sure of records but I know Big Danny has cast the 75g 220m
and the 50g 209m approx. (quick look at UKSF records page),
although our own Sean Neill (ulster casting club) has a PB of
the 75g of 800ft exactly! 266 yards

Stevie thks buddy very informative to cast past 200yards with
just 50grams of lead is beyond understanding or rather out of
this world really fantastic !

For 75g 50g leads I use a 4500 reel 0.26line all on a standard
profile rod

MC buddy just wanted to ask I have a profile Evo which I
absolutely love ! How would you compare the standard profile Vs
profile Evo ? I know the standard s shorter but overrall how
would you compare the two ?

MC just to check and please advise I intend to do some fun
casting with my Penn ppt pit viper 2-4oz and Leeda light sport
2-4oz rods intend to use 2.5oz leads (abt 75grams)and 3oz
leads, I've casted these rods before using these leads and it's
really nice ! Just wondering I'm using exactly the same style
pendulum as I normally do with a normal rod.If I get I do get
interested in these light leads with these type of rods what
other rods do you use ? What other rods are worth looking at in
these class ? my profile Evo as you know just doesn't work well
as you said it needs at least 100grams lead.
So if you could suggest some other rods available in UK id
appreciate

Sorry sir but I am no expert but I use my standard profile for
light leads, as for style I use my normal swing just don't wait
as long as light leads move faster
