        Ceramic Bearings and Lube
By: Chris Date: May 10, 2018, 1:04 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys looking for a little advice ? I have always ran my
ceramic bearings dry.But have recently been told that they still
require a very small amount of lube. Could anyone shed a little
light on this subject as I believe adding lube could hinder the
       overall performance. ???🤔

As far as I know ceramics and hybrid ceramics do not require any
oil whatsoever and a lot of people run them dry particularly for
field casting. Sometimes a tiny drop of oil can be added to slow
them down if reel running too fast.
No harm in adding a tiny bit for a fishing reel you would not
       notice the difference.

Hiya, I've just started using ceramics in my 7htmag and Avet
SXJ-MC, the 7HT runs dry, the Avet has a drop of Tournament
rocket fuel. The lube definitely makes things less noisy, and
casts well (still gets out almost as far as the Daiwa, less
prone to mystery blow-ups than it was when dry). I am wondering,
do the dry bearings need regular cleaning, or are they more "fit
       and forget" than lubed bearings?

The ceramic/hybrids do require cleaning.(fine dust)
I often wash mine in MEK then dry them off with a hot air gun.(i
use to set them alight, not good if the race is plastic)
You'll notice a considerable difference in the static spin time
which can improve by some 40+ secs depending on the brand of
       bearing.
I use to think having 4min + spin time was great, but im happy
with around 2.30,Steve Copping was happy with around 1.40
One con of using freshly cleaned bearings is having to adjust
your mag set up,if you've been using say 6-8secs,this could now
       be 10-12secs.
If my static spin time drops below 2min(mags off) its time for a
       clean.
I'll replace bearings completely when they have been flogged to
death,no amount of cleaning will save them.
As for noise, that is usually an unbalanced spool, unless you
purchased some real shitters from China.
