Roll cast

Im 52(wish i had done this in my prime) and like most,fisherman
first,caster second,but all this distance casting has improved
my understanding of how a rod is loaded and a cast performed.
Seriously got into Tournament casting back in 2014,brought gear
from Danny Stone(coach) 8),the USA and other parts of the world.
Started with what i had Sonik SK 4 and then a AFAW 6&bait....bit
the bullet and brought a T1000.
Anyway vertically challenged and being familiar with 13'6''
rods,i shortened the T1000 to those numbers... much better.
I did start with the normal pendulum style...but liked what J
Carter and Danny were doing.
So countless hours of vid clips and conversations has lead me
sticking with this style...thanks Danny,i never gave up.
Its hard having no coaches or one on one time with experienced
casters,so one has to work it out for ones self.
So thanks to Danny Stone, Jason Carter ,Bill Baja,Stevie,Jeremy
Schrader, Kent Sportcast(John French),Steve Lewis and the
countless others
that put up vids on youtube and info on other forums.....thanks
people for the addiction that is Distance casting. :)
This clip im using the T1000 175g and distance was 212m.......No
wind

Very nice! Never knew it was called the Roll Cast. I have tried
it a few times and seemed a good cast. Will maybe try it again.

Not sure what name it has,but seems applicable as one is rolling
the lead over rather than a pendulum swing.

Good idea! Whats the scene like in NZ? Is there a club or you
cast on your own? PS there was a guy in the states there
recently done over 800ft at age 66 I think so plenty of distance
left in you yet buddy

I dont knew that cast was calles roll cast. Ive tried to do it
but ist fell weird. The mecánica works of course Danny a Jason
cast far with it. Lead speed is the key

Hi StevieR
In answer to your question,yes there is small interest in
casting here in NZ,so small that because of egos and other
personal differences we’ve ended up with two organisations,one
being the NZACA and the other being the NZ distance casting
federation.(All to do with who’s rules they recognise UKSF NZIR
CIPS FIPS FISH & BLOODY CHIPS)
One can only hope that these two groups can put aside their egos
and come together as one organisation.
Meanwhile I’ll take whatever group has to offer in regards to
running an event.
So May the 6th sees an event by the Federation and the following
weekend see the NZACA holding another, both at the same venue ,
which for the few that compete and are any good must travel a
fair distance (time off work,accomodation etc).
Myself and two or three others do have a small scene happening
most Sundays.... just enough to keep our hand in it,but like I
said in another thread,fishing comes first in this country so it
is what it is.
I hope it doesn’t completely die out,for me I’d like to see some
kiwi represent our country one day at the worlds.
Till then it’s arms straight,look up ,turn and smash it!

Bill,I’ve tried normal pendulum with a high swing and low,also
the backcast with mixed results,I like the fact that you can see
the lead on the swing,OTG is also good to practice as it is easy
to involve the left arm more so and forget the right arm.
I’ve looked at the Argentinians,Italians, and other Europeans
styles, but the most unusual set up would be some of the
Japanese styles,those helicopter start ups are something else.
