       Rod building

Since the late 1950s I've been putting rods together by starting
with a blank and adding the guides and sometimes reel seat.
I've always first spined the blank and added the tip top, then
aligned the guides held down with tape, then thread wrapped the
guides on. I've used everything from clear nail polish to
varnish to epoxy as thread wrap protection. In the last few
months I've done the unthinkable - used tape alone to secure the
guides, with a bit of CYA or nail polish to insure the ends
won't curl up and loosen. I dunno the viability of tape
wrapping the guides, but it's a good ten times faster for
getting a blank immediately ready for throwing lead, and maybe
       even fishing, too.
I've finished tape guide wraps for a pair of Zziplex blanks, and
the first tape guide wrap I did was on a Breakaway Omega 10'6"
blank, along with a coastered Fuji reel seat. The reel is a

       and upgraded bearings.

Instead of using tape to temporarily hold down the guides to set
their alignment, after filing/sanding the guide feet to best
align and sit on the blank. I've also experimented with using
double stick tape and even hot melt glue - both seem to work
better in holding the guides firmly to the blank without moving,
unlike tape where the guides can shift ever so slightly and
       screw up the guide-to-guide alignment.
Curious to know how y'all are going about the job of guide
       alignment and wrapping.
