Student Award Ceremony Cancelled?

I am totally perplexed. I received a notification that my
child's elementary school will not be having a formal student
award ceremony this year for the first time. The reason: the
harmful effects that achievement awards are having on those
students who do not receive them.
My 7th grader's awards ceremony in on Monday.
[size=12pt][b][color=red]I am sorry, but why does my 10 year old
child have to NOT be recognized for good work and effort? Your
thoughts?

Then they should at least give them some kind of award that they
are good at. That is what our school does. Yes some might get
more than others but they worked for it. I don't think it is
right for them not to have a awards day to show off what they
have done over the year!

You are so, totally and absolutely correct! My two girls have
excellent grades, but they work hard for them. So many other
children come from families that just don't care about school
and then the kids don't care about school. Education is
paramount and those kids who take it seriously should be
awarded.
The school system wants all kids to be equal. They are equal,
but NOT the same. I am sorry, but that is just life.

No other kid can be equal to the other one. They are all
different. One isn't going to be as smart as the other one. One
isn't going to be loved like the others. Education is suppose to
make them who they are when they grow up. They shouldn't take
something away all grade schools do because someone's parent is
upset because their special snowflake didn't get award. If you
want them to have awards be a parent and help them in their
school work!!

This school system here is going the wrong way. Special
education classes were stopped last September. Now the teacher
spends 90 percent of their time with one or two students.

Now that is wrong! How does other children learn if they don't
have a special class they can go to?

Now you got me going! Basically, good students that need some
help to be good are not getting enough now. The difficult or
special ed students are getting graded only on what they do.
