I may have to if It gets to the point where I don't have the
time ... the thing is, some of the things he forgets are
ingredients I need to make meals with. Then he gets annoyed if
he has to run back to the store. I am going to try to itemize my
list and make it easier for him.

Always. I have a folder for grocery shopping, including a list
organized by store. If it's just a few items, though, and not a
full shopping trip, I just write what I need on a sticky note.
