Am I going to the wrong places?

Seems like whenever I get a haircut (which I'm doing less & less
for not wanting to deal) I get stuck with a stylist who tries to
sell me beauty products by either insulting me or trying to
sound scientific without a clue what she's talking about. I
really did have a lady try to tell me that her product had the
miracle ingredient "Dihydrogen Oxide" (aka water). Another was
telling me how bad the salon-sold product I was using was just
look at how awful my hair was, I should use the one she
recommended. When I got home, I found that I remembered wrong,
and I was already using the product she had recommended.
But the real kicker is the lady that went three-for-one. "Is
this some kind of style?" "Well, your product is ok if you
didn't get it from Walmart" [when I didn't respond in horror,
that got repeated and changed to: "at the grocery store"] "Do
you want a senior discount?" I stopped going to the place in
town, and last week, when I went to a different one, there she
was again.
I can get insulted at work and at least get paid for it, or at
home for free. I don't need to pay someone else to insult me.

They (the salon and the stylist) get paid a commission every
time they sell something, so they are always motivated to sell
to clients. Plus the salon might be pushing them to sell, and
might have a monthly sales quota that they have to achieve. I
just always say no - firmly but nicely. I don't budge and I
really don't care what they say. Or you can say that you are
using L'Oreal's Kerastase and argan oil. I doubt they can say
that their product is better.
However, to the stylist who gave you the three-for-one, I would
have stood up, told her that I refuse to work with someone so
unprofessional that they put down and insult the client. It
makes me wonder about the level of her skills and knowledge, and
her marketing skills are certainly way off. No client should be
intimidated or bullied into buying a product. What a horrible
person!

The only problem I have with salons is that whenever I bring a
picture of a haircut I like they never get it right.
