Do you usually do anything special with your family, like go on
a picnic, and or set off fireworks?

We have lunch/dinner together and hang out. I usually buy
sparklers for the kids to use but its so freakin dry and fires
are already going that I probably won't this year and we are all
praying the city/state officials say NO to fireworks. Its too
dry and too scary right now and would be foolish to allow them.

We don't celebrate the 4th here in Canada. We celebrate Canada
Day (the nation's birthday) on July 1. We like to start the day
by going bowling, then we go find a park or go to the zoo and
hang out for a while and either end the fun with a picnic or
bbq. We spend the evening at home, just hanging out or with
friends and the kids get to stay up late to go watch the
fireworks.

My SILs birthday is the 7/2 so we usually do
something to celebrate her birthday the same weekend. This
year the 4th is in the middle of the week so I think we're just
going over there for a low key day by the pool. [quote

We used to celebrate my Mom's birthday which was July 4 - my
brother & I took turns having a family bbq (her youngest brother
used to give one in his beautiful yard when we were kids) or
we'd take her out for lunch or dinner after Dad passed, then
take her somewhere where there was a fireworks display, or just
watch all the displays from her terraced apartment in the Bronx
- we often could see the Macy's (NYC) display from there. I
always brought her a large red rose with white and blue flowers
bouquet. For the past 10 years, I put that bouquet on Mom &
Dad's grave. Private fireworks are illegal here so we try to
see the various public displays around here. The next town over
always has a big parade, one of the oldest July 4th parades in
the country so we often go there if it's not too hot. Last few
years, since our folks have passed and our son moved out of
state, especially if DH was off (he used to have to work
holidays), we'd have a BBQ here, then watch the Macy's fireworks
display on TV, the the Capitol Fourth concert from Washington,
DC.
