How did you switch from football to wrestling?
“I was a big boy down in the trenches. So at first I had to
knock off some of that football weight, to a more aesthetic
look. It took me three years to get comfortable at 320, then I
suddenly had to drop weight. I cut my portions in half and
stopped eating as a 300-pound man and more like 240-260-pound
guy, who is lean and cut.”
Do you count calories?
“I don’t get too crazy with that. I make sure all my meals have
a ton of protein, a complex carb and healthy fats. Eat like a
caveman, if it grew from the earth, or eats what grows from the
earth, chances are it’s safe to eat. If it’s processed or
created in a lab, I stay away from it.”
How do you eat right, workout and rest while doing 4-5 shows a
week?
“The diet is the easiest of the three. For the most part
everywhere we go, there are restaurants where we can find a
healthy meal. Thank God for these phone we have nowadays, we can
find gyms much easier than the old days. But even if you can’t
find a gym you can always do a body weight workout. Sleep is the
hardest part, I’m still looking for a system.
What does your workout look like?
“My workouts are all about moving a lot weight very fast. I’m
old school. I do squats, Olympic lifts and heavy compound
movements. I’m not the guy, who is going to be flipping a log 50
times. I have always trained for explosion and it shows in the
ring.
What is the most painful thing to happen to you in the ring?
“Anytime a grown man picks you up over his head with the
intention of dropping it’s going to hurt. But if I had to pick
one, it would be the time Big Show, who is over 7 feet,
choke-slammed me out of the ring and through some tables. I
threw up blood for a couple of days after that one.”
If you could do a program with any wrestler past or present that
capped off with the WrestleMania main event, who would it be?
“No matter what I’m going to always want to take the belt of
Rollins. He stole my moment and I’ll never forget what he did to
me. It may look like my hands are full with the Wyatt’s, but
Seth is always on my mind. I won’t feel complete until I pay him
back.
