TNA has had its own hardship over the past several months. As
multiple talent have opted not to renew their contracts and
leave the company, the brand faces its own struggles as
Destination America is reportedly moving towards canceling
“IMPACT WRESTLING.”
With the future uncertain, TNA announced a major departure this
week via Facebook.
“We wish TNA executive Andy Barton all the best as he pursues a
new opportunity. Glad to have CSO Eric Sherman on board as we
look to build on our powerful global brand, continue our rapid
international growth and expand onto emerging platforms.”
Barton had served as executive vice president of the company
since its launch in 2002, having seen its growth and development
into the “IMPACT” brand. Noted in the statement is Eric Sherman,
who TNA named its new chief strategy officer earlier in the
week. Carter spoke on his hiring via a release:
“As we celebrate our 13 year anniversary, TNA, with the
incredible support of our fans, has been cultivated into a
robust diverse global business poised for significant growth,”
said TNA President Dixie Carter. “Eric’s depth of experience in
television, digital media and talent management undergirds his
capacity to organize and lead teams in the development and
implementation of vision-fulfilling strategies. We are delighted
to have him join the TNA family.”
He also issued his own statement:
“I’m thrilled to be joining a company experiencing record
international growth with content seen in more than 120
countries,” said Sherman. “There is a bright future for TNA on
traditional and emerging platforms, and I’m excited to join
Dixie’s executive team as head of strategy.”
It is unsure what effect this departure will have on TNA, or
just how hands-on Barton was at this point in the game. It is
also not specified what he will be moving on to do.
