Inter-gender Matches. Yes or No?
By: Emmylou Date: March 18, 2015, 8:20 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I really enjoy the new inter-gender matches.
I was lucky to see the London Wembley show live & Robbie E vs
Brooke
seemed to go down really well.
I like to see the female wrestlers keeping pace with the male
ones. A lot has
been said about female wrestlers not getting the same coverage
as men. WWE
seems to have a problem with this, but as I don't watch it I
can't comment on that.
ALL wrestlers, male & female, train for this profession. They
also all take the same
risks.
On the recent one night only show, Jokers Wild 3, I loved the
mixed tag teams.
Rockstar Spud & Awesome Kong were pure comedy gold.
Gail Kim & Sonjay Dutt were brilliant together.
Could this be another TNA only match like the Ultimate X match?
Ones any other company do this?
How would you feel if a new tag belt was made for an
inter-gender team?
I would love this to happen. What do you think?

Love this topic and very close I my heart . I been to see PCW(
UK Indy) in the past when I have been in the UK and they have
done a lot of them type of matches . One girl comes to mind who
is in a lot of crazy matches is Kay lee Ray. If they are done
right they will work . love this topic .

Please take this post light heated. This is just my opinion lol

Why WWE doesn't have any more inter-gender/mixed wrestling
matches?
In the past they used to have inter-gender matches (female vs
male) back in the old wwf.. but why did they stop it?

A lot of it has to do with the move towards the "PG" era of WWE
wrestling...during the Attitude Era, there was a lot of
criticism among the media towards the idea of male violence
towards females in pro wrestling (beliefs that it made male
viewers more likely to be abusive against women). Remember the
independent wrestler named The Wife Beater? I do remember the
inter-gender matches (They used to have mixed tag team matches
as well).
The other issue is that when the WWE had female wrestlers like
Chyna and Nicole Bass (women who were body builders themselves),
it was more "believable" that they could hold their own against
men in the ring...but today the "Divas" division is a joke -
women look like NFL cheerleaders, not wrestlers - which is a
major factor.

They had Natty involved in a tag match on Smackdown teaming with
Tyson & Cesaro against Los Matadores billed as an "inter
species" match so could that technically be an inter gender
match as everyone knows El Torito is actually a man?

TNA could go down this road. But WWE is to kid friendly and PG
to do anything like that. I remember lita back in the day taking
on males

While the PG thing is an issue, Chikara has an entirely PG
product and has inter gender matches all the time. They keep a
tight universe of in the ring only wrestling though, there is
very little brawling and the men wrestle in a similar Lucha
style as the women. Lucha underground too has been successful
with intergender wrestling. I am a big fan of it, but I do
understand there is a place for women only areas of wrestling.
Basically why doesn't WWE do it? They would have to change the
dynamic of the male performers to bring them back in the ring
and enforce the rules which would mean more restrictions and
they are either to lazy or not bright enough to figure it out.
They are also making money hand over fist as they are so see no
reason to change anything I guess which is a shame.
For good intergender stuff I would go to Lucha Underground,
Chikara, REINA in Japan and Kana's self promoted stuff for
something different like this;

Brooke via Robbie E was not the best . Their was to much messing
about for me . I want to see them go at it like two men or two
girls.. the uk is A great place to see them tbh. Kay lee Ray is
great in them

I think there is a place for it, but it should be tag team
style, and only men should hit men while women hit women. It's
not a matter of being PG, but more for the sake of having a
unique style and storytelling within pro wrestling. It's
important to come across as unique as possible and make the
physical interactions between a man and woman be special. A male
heel simply grabbing a female wrestler, let alone performing a
move on her, would be made irrelevant. Likewise for women
performing a move on a man. If you simply present a man vs woman
as an ordinary match, there's an element of variety that is
lost. There is more potential, in my opinion, for creating an
attraction out of the style of inter-gender wrestling than the
normalization of it. That would make any card feel special.
Inter-gender single matches should be reserved for special story
lines and attractions. All that said, inter-gender wrestling
should not take precedence over other divisions within a
company. Especially one like TNA where it's trouble enough to
get proper TV time for the other divisions.

I agree Sharkboy to extent. I think Lucha Underground get the
balance about right with women on their roster out of the
majors, and Chikara do the same for the indies.
