Sheriff Lonestar's PPV of the week; Dropping a Bombshell

When Chigusau Nagayo popped up cutting promos for World Wonder
Ring Stardom a few months back it was nice to see the “Greatest
Joshi of them all” back in the wrestling business, but I figured
she was up to something. Chigusau has been rarely seen in and
around wrestling for quite some time since the close of GAEA in
2005. When she became one of the lead figures in Sendai Girls
Generation Battle series pitting Meiko Satomura against Kagetsu,
I knew she was definitely up to something and I started getting
excited. When she announced she was back into producing shows,
just a one of mind, that got my attention. This is it, but it is
so much more than that. This could be the most important show in
women's wrestling this year and it all started with a bad
       landing.

       Karou
Back in 2011, 23 year veteran and “Queen of Hardcore” broke her
foot after missing a high spot, initially expected to be out for
two months, sadly for her it got infected and she had to retire.
A trainee of the AJW Dojo, it must have been a hard blow for her
when she had seen so many wrestlers like Akira Hokuto and Toshi
Yamada come back from badly broken necks and wrestle, she is one
of that crew, and that crew always was the toughest crew ever in
pro wrestling. When her friend GAEA graduate Uematsu retired in
2012 she personally requested KAROU to be her tag partner in her
retirement match and she just couldn’t physically do it. KAROU
was distraught that she couldn't be there for her friend and it
pushed her onwards. Taking inspiration from singer Tomomi Kahala
who had battled back from a tranquillizer addiction to top the
pop charts in Japan, Karou told Nagayo that Kahala saved her
life, she got back to fitness, called up Chigusau and arranged
her comeback and on March 22nd Chigusau was more than happy to
       oblige.
This is not just a wrestling card, this is a celebration of the
thirty eight years of All Japan Women, the ten years of GAEA and
the entire history of Joshi in general since Mildred Burke
turned up to perform in a local hall for Japanese based American
Soldiers after the second world war. It put Joshi back into a
large arena for the first time since GAEA and AJW closed their
doors back in 2005, and quite frankly the card is astounding. It
opens with a veterans match. Gokuaku Doumei, fully reformed with
its original cast of heels including, and I can't believe I am
writing this, Bull Nakano who braided her hair down to her
replicate her old school mohawk straight out of 1987, were in
full flow. Dump Matsumoto leading the way under Swastika (she
isn't really a Nazi obviously), heel referee Shiro Abe, this is
the full nine yards. In the ring Dump partnered up with Yoshiko
(Stardom's baby monster and one of the best heels going in
wrestling today) and making her first return of the evening
KAROU. Chigusa Nagayo tagged with her new friends Kagetsu (who
she is mentoring in her Sendai Girls storyline) & Takumi Iroha
(who was split open badly by Dump at Sendai Girls Generation
Battle in November). Chigusau, despite years away from the ring
and the need to wear a t-shirt these days to cover the middle
aged spread, looked in fine form wearing a gui and carrying
light tubes taped together as befits a hardcore legend in a
street fight, they let it all hang out like it was 1988 and
someone's hair was on the line. Not losing a step the youngsters
all got in on the action too, Iroha and Kagetsu both being the
victim of fork attacks from Dump and Bull. Of course Karou had
to play a roll in this perfect environment for her, and she gave
it her perfect moonsault from the top of the ladder to signify
her comeback was in full swing.
Bare in mind this was the opening match. The rest of the card is
pretty damn spectacular as well. Diana's crew putting something
special together in the six woman match is another highlight.
The perfect tag team match up pairing of World Wonder Ring's Neo
high Speed Champion Natsuki☆Taiyo and World of Stardom
Champion Io Shirai against my pick for the best tag team in the
world today, The Sendai Sisters was mercurial, with speed and
pace and intensity. The Sendai Sisters, Daily Sport and JWP Tag
Team Champions were on top form here. But there was only one
really true story about this card, and that was Karou and the
       moonsault.
The main event pitted KAROU in her comeback proper (you know a
proper wrestling match not a blood fest) alongside Ayoko Hamada
and Takako Inoue against Meiko Satomura, Shinobu Kandori and
coming out of retirement for one night only Toshi Uematsu,
coming back to finish the job of her wrestling career the way
she wanted too. Everyone in this match slogged their
guts out, its a wonderful piece of work and whet my appetite for
more. Kandori is a legendary hardcase from LLPW who mad her
headlining name in a series of bouts with Akira Hokuto that are
the stiffest things you will ever see, anywhere ever. 20 years
later she has still not lost a step and her appetite for
wrestling is still very strong. Hamada as you know is one of my
favourites, arguably the best all rounder in Joshi alongside
Meiko Satomura, its always a joy to see these two go at it.
Inoue is just awesome as usual, her fiendish heel ways, yes
that's a tazer she brought to the ring with her, are put to the
side for one night so she can go back to being her old school
pure wrestling self, before the hair pulling, interference
running, BDSM video starring, Takoko took over. Uematsu is in
full force too, clearly training hard in her time off, her
twitter feed is full of pictures of her muscle development since
her retirement and she has a back that would put Randy Orton to
shame. The story of the bout would be stopping KAROU from
landing the moonsault, a true thing of beauty, sorry Chris
Daniels yours is not the best ever, though it is pretty good. It
is old school psychology with a lot of fun thrown in and you can
see everyone smiling by the end of the show.
That is not all though after a surprise which I won't let you in
on, Chigusau Nagayo addressed the crowd one more time to
announce the formation of her new company “Marvellous”. This is
really important, it means that we will get more shows like
this, she is likely to open up a dojo again, and that Joshi will
more than likely be back in the arenas where it belongs. Nagayo
brings star power, star power money, and as she dedicates her
life to pro wrestling once again, we can all go along for the
       ride.
