First Impressions: Japanese Wrestling, Alpha Female and Daniel B

       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Alpha Female Vs. Nanae Takahashi:
Okay, so... REALLY not used to the whole japanese language thing
but the actual match looks pretty damn impressive and, heres a
shocker for you guys: I think I have a slight crush on Alpha
already. Badass doesn't even cover it. Oh, and that accent is
       cute.
Loving the promos from Alpha that have been intercut into this,
I'm impressed. Kind-of loving how the ref asks them/tells them
to get the heck back up in the ring, I think we need more of
that in the US/UK stuff, it's always frustrating when people
duck out to the sides as we next to never can see them properly
       when they do it.
       Meiko Satomura Vs. Nanae Takahashi:
Okay, so I'll start this by admitting Nanae kind-of annoyed me
last time but I'm giving her a second shot here. See, after
Alpha's match this one looks a little flat. I'm still
entertained but this one seems to be almost USA styled with all
the punches and throwing going on... Not really sure what to
       make of that.
       KANA's five matches:
       Match 1:
KANA as a rookie just looks... dangerous. I'm not sure what to
make of her other than that.
       Match 2:
... I still don't really know what to make of this.
       Match 3:
Definately impressed by this one, but KANA still looks insanely
       dangerous.
       Match 4:
KANA = Chyna basically here, that's all I can see.
       Match 5:
Chaos. Just... Chaos. I'm so confused. >.<
       Daniel Bryan:
Well. First off CM Punk just... no. He's not a favourite. Bryan
however seems to be pretty nifty on his feet. I'm impressed.

That's a pretty cool first reaction and thank you for being open
minded enough to watch them because folks get put off by the
       language.
Its probably a little unfair to A/B The first match and the
second match, Alpha and Meiko are two very different opponents
for Nanae. Both intense, but Meiko does it with style and slick
moves where as Alpha is so brutal in her outlook, love 'em both
       though :).
Okay just overview the KANA stuff and I shall give you a little
       more background;
       1. You hit the nail on the head. As did she. Literally.
       2. Kimura is a straight up brawler she tags with Alpha a lot.
KANA prides herself on being tough so it was no guesses as to
who was going to take a beating.
       3. I am glad you liked the shoot style, I like it a lot but its
what I wish wrestling could be more often.
       4. The DDT Ironman Title was and is a bit of a joke title held
under 24 hour rules, if there is a ref there a match can start.
It has been won by a ladder, a small dog, people have won it in
the queues at airports, invisible wrestlers have won it, blow up
dolls have won it, so yeah no wonder you're confused.
       5. Was a mixed tag and the build up is a little hazy, but all
       round fun and games really.
I think you will find that's one of Punk's better indie outings
though Chrissie is the Punk expert you may want to ask her for
       more recommendations.
We should do this as a regular thing, I provide you with a
match, you give first impressions on it :)

       I've bookmarked Meiko's to re-watch later. Maybe once I
re-review her match (Second Impressions perhaps??) I'd be
willing to try some more stuff for sure.

       Second Impressions: Meiko Vs Nanae:
Okay, so I promised SheriffLonestar I would give Meiko/Nanae a
second shot. Here's my second impressions on it:
I still hate the Japanese announcements, but then that's more
than likely because I don't understand it. The intros here are
cringe-making even for me... and I used to love stuff like Dude
Love so there you go. I'm not sure what exactly is going on with
the hand being held out and not slapped? is that some sort of
Japanese version of the handshake or? On the upside, at least
this referee knows how to get out the way unlike some you get.
The staring contest at the beginning actually gave me the
giggles this time... kind-of cute. The shove however just seems
juvenile. Slaps look.. awkward here, I'm not even sure if that
connected or the faking looks off? Something looks bizarre
though. I will never love shreiking... ever. I don't even like
it when the TNA girls or the WWE lot start up... not cute at
all, actually faintly annoying. God, but I do love the ref here
bodily getting between the girls... we need more of that over
here in the UK... and ideally some over in the USA too!
Shoving the ref looks daft, I'm sorry but it does. Nice attempts
at kicks going on here though, again I'm actually impressed this
time. I think last time the match might have suffered after I
watched them both one after the other? I'm not sure... I do like
it this time though. Interesting over-the-shoulder throw... not
sure of the actual name for it in Japan though?
I assume the Japanese women wear mouth-pieces... but the red
colour makes it look like they busted their mouths open... which
is just a little bit awkward. Not loving when the action goes
out side the ring, it looks even more painful here... which is
not nice. I will admit that I like the costuming from Japan
though, a lot less skin on show and it allows you to focus on
       the match.

       This is the match Ros watched;

I still hate the Japanese announcements, but then that's more

The Announcements - You get used to them, the guy in New Japan
is now doing them in English to and actually singing the names.
The Handshake - This match is high stakes shit. The President of
Sendai Girls (Meiko) vs The President of Stardom (Nanae) (Yes
women in Japan run their own companies) but it goes back aways.
Meiko trained in the GAEA promotion Nanae in the AJW promotion
the two biggest companies ever in Joshi. So its really about the
style and future of Joshi and who has the upper hand, so no hand
shake despite the fact they are both faces, it is all part of
the mystic and tension in this bout.
The staring contest at the beginning actually gave me the
giggles this time... kind-of cute. The shove however just seems
juvenile. Slaps look.. awkward here, I'm not even sure if that

bodily getting between the girls... we need more of that over

The shoves and the slaps are part of their build up, both being
noble faces they can't just cheat straight off the bat, but they
have to show the tension. They probably where aiming to connect
though, slaps are important part of Japanese wrestling because
as you probably noticed everyone sticks to the rules more or
less so no punches. Especially as they have the best ref in all
of wrestling who also started in GAEA some 15 years ago. Though
they do have some interference laden matches generally speaking
everyone plays by the rules, especially two faces like this. The
shrieking is about the fighting spirit of each wrestler which is
part of the dynamic make up, and as these two are the top dogs
in their relevant promotions they will be a showing a lot of
fight spirit during the match. As a general rule when Meiko
starts screaming as my Dad puts it (shits going to happen).
Meiko has incredible kicks and a strong MMA background, all
women are taught how to shoot to protect themselves in Japan,
men to, but it was noticeable that when female wrestlers went to
MMA shows they where winning a lot more than the male wrestlers
who where on those cards. The over the shoulder throw would be
the Death Valley Bomb, that's one of Meiko's signatures. The
Death Valley Driver that you see in the States a lot was
actually invented by a Japanese woman and used most by the late
Louie Spicolli and is often attributed to him though he always
told everyone where he got it from. Meiko follows them down
hence why it is a Bomb not a driver.
I assume the Japanese women wear mouth-pieces... but the red
colour makes it look like they busted their mouths open... which
is just a little bit awkward. Not loving when the action goes
out side the ring, it looks even more painful here... which is
not nice. I will admit that I like the costuming from Japan
though, a lot less skin on show and it allows you to focus on
       the match.
No they actually bust each other open. Nanae's forearms come in
stiff and hard, Meiko's kicks are not pulled and they turned it
up a notch for this match. I figured personally that the out of
the ring brawling that Japanese women favour started recently,
but I watched an old TV taping from like '84 over Christmas and
even back then they where brawling in the crowd and using tables
on a regular basis. Just part of the style. Glad you liked it
       though :).
