Remembering pro wrestling before Hulkamania took over the "
       sport".

I have been a wrestling fan since the Vern Gagne, Dick the
Bruiser, Argentina Rocca and Bruno Sammartino days. I was
wondering who would you like to see in their prime against the
stars of today? I know it was a different kind of pro wrestling
than what you have today. Back then you didn't really have the
"storylines" like you do today. To me the storylines hasn't
really improved the product it's actually made the program
worse. It used to be more of a jump from behind like what the
Aces and 8's or NWO do today but it was more of a challenge your
opponent than whether A J is the father storyline or the comedy
of Eric Young. I do like the idea of what WWF/WWE started with
star vs. star rather than star vs. jobber. Used to be when it
was star vs. star was to build up upcoming series of matches.
That idea needed to change to get people to watch. Even though
I didn't like Hulk-a-mania it did bring popularity back to pro
       wrestling.

I like the storylines when they are done well. The Monday Night
Wars ruined it. Then it became about making money, swapping
titles, scandal, sex and trying to outdo each other rather than
actually building a story and a series of matches and a rivalry
with a point. before that though up to say about 97ish the
       storylines were really rather good

everyone seems to forget that the sport was big before Hogan but
the whole rock and wrestling thing with Hogan made it bigger.
wrestling will still be big without a hulk hogan

I would say there always was stories but they didn't over shadow
the matches. I like Chikara currently for that aspect because
there is either one long building story like Eddie Kingston
versus Tim Donst, or there is something so patently ridiculous
it has to be a parody like Archibald Peck versus Mr. Touchdown.
If you look down at Memphis wrestling history, which has had its
fair share of whacky storylines, the one that made the most
money was Jerry Lawler chasing the World Title, simple and clear
easy to understand local boy does good.
