WWEs Best manager ever have your say...
By: tnafanforum Date: June 11, 2013, 7:44 am
---------------------------------------------------------
After the sad passing of Paul Bearer earlier in the year. Many
people, both wrestlers and fans, proclaimed that he was the best
manager ever to have worked in the business.
Paul was especially credited with making The Undertaker an
instant success, and also brought Kane, perhaps one of the most
consistent wrestlers of the past 20 years to the forefront of
the WWE.
His work with The Undertaker is legendary, from Undertaker being
his Protégée,to turning on the undertaker and trying to lead
various other wrestlers to beating the undertaker, with the
likes of Kane, The executioner, Vader and Mankind all working
under Bearerat some point.
Now, in the modern era, Paul Heyman is said to be the best
mouthpiece in the business, perhaps the best mouthpiece ever.
Look at Brock Lesnar alone, can barely string a sentence
together, but with Heyman talking for him, he was able to
dominate WWE. So when he came back it was natural that Heyman
was there at his side again.
Also he sent Punk to another level, Punk was already huge, but
with Heyman by his side he was untouchable.
And now with Curtis Axel, they are all expecting big things from
him, and one of the main reasons people think that is because he
is working with Heyman.
So, my question is simple, who is the best manager, Heyman or
Bearer, and why?
I am also interested to seeing who the tnafanforum Universe
believes can compete with these two as being the best manager.

Best manager? Neither one can hold a candle to the best
wrestling manager ever. That would go to Bobby "The Brain"
Heenan.

It is all relative really. Back in the day, I would have said
The Grand Wizard, because he was the the top heel draw in New
York forever, all through Bruno's reign and in Bob Backlund.
Because of the nature of territories he was the main protagonist
against the Champ whomever that maybe (always a face in New
York). Moving on I would have to agree with Robert. I would say
Bobby Heenan served a similar role in the 80's being Hulk
Hogan's protagonist giving a voice to King Kong Bundy, Andre The
Giant and finally Ric Flair. So Paul Bearer or Paul Heyman? As
great as both where, their best work came in other places. The
Bearer character was awesome but he got more heat in Memphis as
Percy Pringle. Heyman's finest managerial hour came as the
leader of The Dangerous Alliance in WCW where he was basically a
replacement for the Four Horsemen, try following that. Well Paul
did and he was awesome at it. However as a guy who understood
the WWE audience and could get more heat than anyone else, it
has to be Bobby Heenan

The business moves on, there was more of a need for managers in
the territory days, because of that stationary factor. The Grand
Wizard was the challenger to Bruno, not the guys he managed.
Each month he would bring in a new guy he'd start at the bottom
and if he made it after 6 months he would have a run with Bruno,
first night no contest, second time he'd get DQ'd then a cage
match in the Garden. A simple tried and tested formula. It also
worked in the Omni in Atlanta (Paul Ellering), Reunion Arena
(Skandor Ackbar), Memphis Coliseum (Jimmy Hart), all these
places creating that much managerial talent, who got a lot of
camera time because they where probably the best in their
promotion so when things went national they where well placed.
Impact and Raw barely have time to get the wrestlers over never
mind anyone else.

Bobby Heenan actually started in AWA managing The Devil's Duo
which consisted of Angelo Poffo and Chris Markhoff. As most of
you know Angelo Poffo is the father of Randy Savage. When
Heenan moved to Minneapolis wrestling a wrestler named "Crusher"
Lisowski nicknamed Heenan "The Weasel." Bobby Heenan managed
greats like Ernie "The Cat" Ladd, Bobby Duncam, Black Jack
Lanza, Black Jack Mulligan, Baron Von Raschke, Nick Bockwinkle
and Ray Stevens. Then he moved to WWF and had a great run as
manager there. Then we went to WCW as a commentator where he
finally retired from.
