MAGNUS TALKS PROBLEMS WITH BRITISH WRESTLING

One of the UKs best wreslers Magnus talks about British
wrestling, he also talks about the reasons why it is not longer
on TV and what he remembers a to growing up.
This is what he had to say in the Fighting Spirit Magazine.
Magnus wrote:
“I know there are many old marks who really want to believe that
it was someone else’s fault that British wrestling lost their TV
slot, but it wasn't – it was their own. Go back and look at what
British wrestling was offering in 1987 in terms of production,
then compare it to WWF footage from the same year. Once again, I
know that the British sycophant fans are going to suggest that
I’m burying the likes of Fit Finlay, ‘Rollerball’ Rocco and
Danny Boy Collins, who are all tremendous workers, but I’m not
doing that; instead, I’m looking at a comparison between the way
the shows were presented.
The last time I checked, Britain wasn't the center of the
universe. You could argue that British wrestling is a shadow of
its former self, but that wasn't the phrase (the BBC documentary
– When Wrestling Was Golden: Grapples, Grunts and Grannies)
used. The BBC did what a lot of guys from that era do, and
pretended that WWE and TNA don’t exist, and that the American
product killed off the British territory, just like Vince
McMahon wiped out all the U.S territories that couldn't keep up.
But pro wrestling is more global than ever before; in 2012, I
wrestled in the USA, the UK, Canada, Japan, Mexico and India.
Yes, local shows may struggle to fill Fairfield Halls, but this
is the strongest live event attendance market in the world for
WWE and TNA.”

He is of course right, it wasn't the workers that killed the
product. The product was great just presented and promoted.

and people now days do not want to see the UK wrestling they
just want to see the us wrestling what is not good.

Its true what he said. He even said it on twitter at the time.
The WWEs attitude era kinda overshadowed the UK wrestling
But saying that, when i was at Wembley last week, a few seats
along from me was a lovely old lady who nearly wet herself when
Hulk Hogan came out.

What he's saying is nothing new and to be honest, I don't know
who he is referring to as pretty much most UK promoters I know
have said the same thing. Alex Shane is, in my opinion, one of
the leading pioneers of British wrestling and has worked long
and hard to get it back into the spotlight. He said just the
other day "If we're to bring back British wrestling to TV we
have to have the production values." The closest we had was FWA
but even they fell below the look of RoH in places.
Needless to say, watch the skies. I think we'll be seeing
something occurring very soon.

there is so many good uk wrestlers out there in wwe and tna .
Bt I do think having a British wrestling show on tv will not
happy any tie soon ..

From what I read see and here Lucha Britannia maybe the best bet
for a UK promotions TV show.

but it may be a uk promotions but do you see it being a uk
wrestling show with just UK stars and the UK wrestling like you
sew in the old days . Or would it just be the same as the
rest... Yes people want to see UK wrestling but does the rest
of the world want to see it ... You no what I mean.

You are not going to get that back, and its not that its
Mountevans rules or the same style of presentation. Wrestling is
wrestling. That style lives on else where in CM Punk and Daniel
Bryan, they both worked here and loved that style and
incorporated it into what they do. It is not the style we are
after its being part of the culture and the zeitgeist like it
used to be. I'd Lucha Britannia a shot just because it is so
different from anything else. It is Chikara for adults, its
artistic, its just different and that is what is going to draw
against the WWE and TNA, it changes the perception of wrestling.

Yer I no what you mean mate .. The UK have got some amazing
wrestlers.
