Fylde taking control. Our first up tackles have been poor. Too
many penalties. Bit clueless in attack. Not good. Need a score
soon.
We have lost a bit of identity in our attack. Forwards less
effective and the backs are struggling to make an impact.

21 - 17 ft
Scoreline flattering us a bit really. We had 2 tries held up in
the first half, countless line outs messed up.
We couldn't break there line and were getting knocked back in
the tackle. Fylde making yards with virtually every run.
One of our lads got completely run through 5 meters from our
line which lead to a try.
We could have buried Fylde but we didn't show up. Hull and
Stourbridge will be licking their lips.
That was a poor performance. We need to go back to our earlier
game plan. Get them forwards firing before anything else.
Really disappointing result and a hard game to watch.

Not all results are in yet, but we are now 12pts behind Hull,
with two games in hand. Really, next week must be a WIN.

Agree Chris. Bad day at the office. First halftones down points
to go for the corner but failed several attempts to get over the
line. We seemed to.lack creativity to break down their defence
and despite what must have been 80% territory and 15 v14 for ten
minutes we were losing 6_ 0 at half time. We seem to have lost
a bit of boil since just before Christmas. Need to get it back
quick. Their backs made a lot of yards with the ball and Fylde
deserved the win. Need to work on creative solutions for the
next few weeks. We can still win this league but it will be
tough as we will meet stronger teams overall than Fylde. This
was a game we should have won. Missed / weaker tackling in some
areas didn't help. They were ferocious tacklers.

On reflection, when we started playing we were, in my opinion,
comfortably the better side but for some reason we just can't
seem to put a full 80 minutes together. When we turned it on in
the last 10 minutes we looked very dominant however it was TOO
LITTLE TOO LATE. In the first half we dominated possession and
field position, we had two tries held up over the line which if
we had scored would have probably changed the game and lead onto
us winning the game relatively comfortably, however we didn't
score so it doesn't matter.
The new rule change played against us, as rather than getting a
5 metre scrum with our put in they had a drop out from their try
line which meant we had to build again and go for the attack. If
we had the 5 metre scrums I would say we would have definitely
scored a converted try from at least one of them.
Where we let ourselves down was game management. We repeatedly
kicked for the corner but couldn't convert the line out into
points. We SHOULD have gone for goal with at least 2 of the
penalties given in the first half - extra 6 points we win the
game. We missed touch with a penalty in kickable range by going
to the wrong corner, this is just not acceptable and we messed
up line outs on their 5 metre line again this is not acceptable
and at the early stages of the year under Salvo we would have
scored in them situations. IF IT IS NOT BROKE DO NOT FIX IT. We
dropped a high ball which lead to them scoring. Not blaming Matt
Minogue as he is being played out of position. 1 try in the
second half their big 12 just ran over his opposite man 5 metres
from the line to set up an easy try. This just can't happen, he
was a big lad but big it wasn't muscle.
In the second half Fylde grew in confidence and took the
momentum, they had dealt with our hardest punches and believed
they could take all we had and beat us at their game of which
they did. They gave us a lesson in creative running rugby.
Now other problems I have is with the team selection. In my
opinion our biggest ball carrying threat in the backs is Jamie
Cooke a centre who for season after season is being played out
of position on the wing getting very little decent ball and
space. He needs to have a go in the centres. In our last season
in the Champ Jamie was the only back who made any ground for us.
I just can't understand why you would not use him in his proper
position. We signed Matt Minogue as a fly half and are now
playing him out of position at 15 when we have fullbacks not
selected.
What Fylde had was a traditional backline, Good, creative half
backs, big inside centre to draw in tackles and create space,
fast 13 and lighting wingers with a 15 who can attack the line
and it works.
At the moment our backline player position wise is this and it
doesn't work for me at all.
9 - Scrum Half
10 - Fly Half
11 - Centre (Cooke)
12 - Centre (dune)
13 - Centre (hayes)
14 - Winger / Centre (field)
15 - Fly Half (minogue)
Would it be worth something more like this - Playing people in
their actual position?
9 - Boxhall / Pocklington
10 - Minogue / Carlise / West
11 - Lewis
12 - Cooke / Dunne / Taylor
13 - Hayes / Field / Clark
14 - Field
15 - Hayes / Lewis / Tucker
Yesterday is not the end of the world but it does mean we are
going to have to really show up next week if we want to still be
in contention for promotion. If not should we not just set the
precedent for where we want to be as a club and can survive
sustainably?
