Bad weather can be a great leveller, and today's weather was
atrocious. Our Lads dropped a couple of High balls but Fylde
made a mess of about half-a-dozen. Players from both sides
handled the wet ball better than I thought they would.
Considering the weather I thought it was a good game to watch.
In the opening 20 minutes Fylde didn't get into our half, and we
had all the territory and most of the possession but in that
period we only scored 3 pts. Then in the wink of an eye Fylds
Backs got the ball in their own half, cutting us to ribbons and
running in under the posts, little did I think then, that it
was to be the only time they would do it.
In the second half we woke up and our Forwards began to exert
more and more pressure, they took Fylds line-out throws on
numerous occasions and won Penalties at the Breakdown and Set
Scrums. They fully deserved the 3 Forwards tries they scored in
the second half.
The Fylde Backs did give us 2 or 3 hairy moments in the second
half, but overall our first up tackling was very good.
This was a hard fought and well won battle which has put us at
the Top of the Table.
There doesn't seem to be much respite in this League and next
Saturdays game will be no picnic. Hull Ionians had another good
Win today and will no doubt present a stiff challenge to our
unbeaten record.
