Fifteen games undefeated and now our first defeat. Maybe it had
to happen eventually. We have had some close wins and rode our
luck on occasions, but one defeat doesn't suddenly make us a
poorer Team. We are now down to 5th in the League but still
with games in hand. We have picked up less bonus points than
the teams above us and looking at the Table these really do make
a big difference.
We are a long way off from having to press the panic button,
BUT, we really do need to Win next Saturday to prevent the gap
to at least 2nd place becoming to wide.
The following two games Should bring us Wins to take us to our
games against Stourbridge (H) and Hull (A). We can then look
at our remaining Nine games believing that we can / should Win
all of them, but once again anything can happen in any of them.
As the remaining games come and go we can't afford to be
continually playing catch-up as the teams above us will not be
losing many, if any of their games, unless against each other.
I'm never a defeatist, always positive, but as it stands I can't
see Hull losing another game, I hope I'm wrong. If I'm not
wrong then they have already won the League.
We do have a really good squad of Players who should have done
better in most of the games played, that's hard to say
considering their run of undefeated games, but to me what's
lacking at times is the Killer Instinct to totally Kill a game
off when in good positions to do so. We are now in a position
where every chance to score points must be taken. This season
is a long way from over and we have to remain positive.
I followed yesterday's game on Twitter, and from that and
comments from people who were there, we should have Won. The
extra 3 or 4 points gained by us, and the points lost by Fylde
would have made a big difference to the Table. But we lost and
that loss should now be sucked up and swallowed as we move on to
the next game.
It would be fantastic if we gained Promotion, but if we don't,
would it be the End of the World, NO IT WOULDN'T. I'm sure all
of us have enjoyed this season so far and will enjoy the rest of
it. We have watched some good Rugby and I have to admit the
Standard is a lot higher than I thought it would be in Division
2.
It's onwards and upwards now, and whatever the outcome of this
season, we'll ALL be back next season, does anyone disagree.
I THOUGHT NOT.

Very good post Winger and well observed. I would have estimated
we had about 80% territory in the first half and 10 minutes of
15v14 and yet we went in 6-0 down. We should have been well
infront and I suspect the likes of Hull would have been. We can
still win this or get to play off position but we need to start
to convert chances Into points quickly. Fylde converted almost
all of their chances. I think they had fewer chances than us but
they got the points and that in the end is what counts.

Yes at the end of the game Fylde had scored more points than our
Lads, but this game shows how close it is between Winning or
Losing.
We scored 3 tries to Fyldes 2. We also got the Ball over their
try line another two times but failed, by inches, to get the
Ball on the ground.
If just one of those tries had counted we would have finished
the game with 5pts instead of 1pt and Fylde would have had 1pt
instead of 4pts.
If that had happened we would be in 2nd place in the League
instead of 5th.
Such close margins, but has others have said, if only we could
get the Ball over the oppositions try line, and grounded, more
often, then those margins would be higher and in our favour.

Back to Winning and what a way to do it, away at Stourbridge.
That's their run of 8 wins at home at an end. They came back
into the game in the second half but it was still a convincing
win by the Titans.
In the first half we scored tries in the 17th, 19th, 27th,
and 44th minutes. They scored a Try in the 24th minute.
In the second half Stourbridge scored tries in the 56th and
57th minutes, we scored in the 51st and 63rd minutes so we were
still in a strong position. We were then Winning 45 - 19. With
just 9 minutes to go Stourbridge were awarded a Penalty Try,
this was followed by another Try in the 75th minute. At this
time we had Smithy in the Bin.
Stourbridge's kicker scored 3 conversions, but Minogue had 8
kicks (6C 2P) at goal and converted all of them. Four of these
kicks were in the first half against the wind.
This was certainly a result to show the Clubs around us, that
the loss we suffered did not knock us back, in fact it looked
like it gave our Lads a boost and the determination to do better
and it certainly did that. We now need convincing Wins against
Ionians and Luctonians to take us into the Stourbridge and Hull
games.
After our tiny, tiny bit of depression after our first defeat,
we are now back on Cloud Nine.

Throughout the years, the Titans have played in some very poor
games, some poor games, some good games, some very good games
and some excellent games, the game against Stourbridge will go
on the list of Excellent Games. This will certainly be a game
that is long remembered by the Supporters who were there to
watch it, and probably also by those that followed on Twitter
and those that simply heard the result.
We've still got to climb Killimanjaro and Everest, and our
results against those two could go a long way to defining our
final league position, but as we stand now we've got ever reason
to remain positive for the rest of the season.
I'm not sure if Lewis Wilson has signed for the rest of the
season, I hope he has. Also would like to see Kieran Curran
stay with us for as long has possible.
Two very good additions to the squad.
I've now heard that Lewis is with us for the season.

Another excellent result and scoreline with the added Try bonus
point. Always good to stop the opposition from crossing our Try
line. Kylie on target again with his place kicking, same as
against Stourbridge he had 8 kicks at goal ( 4C 4P ) this
time, and converted them all. He's certainly been an asset
signing for us.
Since coming to us from Wasps, Curran has scored 3 Try's in 2
games, hope that Lee has forgotten that he's here, a loan
agreement to the end of the season would be great for us, we
may really need him after yesterday.
Laxton and Poole missed yesterday's game with Knee injuries but
hopefully will be back against Luctonians. But with Capps,
Smith and Bustin being seen by Specialists we can only wish them
well and hope that any absences are has short as possible. With
what could be a Season defining game at Hull in two weeks time,
these injuries could hit us hard. We do of course have Players
who can cover these position, but if these Lads are out for a
considerable number of games, then if we suffer more injury
absences they could hit us doubly hard.
We can look at a worse case scenario, but things might not be as
bad as they looked ( Stretches) yesterday. Again it's a case
of wait and see.
I haven't said much about yesterday's game, but however good the
result was, it doesn't count above what could be BAD injuries to
our players.

Last week's game ( Luctonians) was certainly one to remember.
Played on a quagmire of a pitch so the Rugby played was very
scrappy. The outcome of the game went down to the last 5 mins.
Losing 10 - 5 Roth mounted an assault on Luctonians line, Roth
were awarded a Penalty, it was a pick and go by the Forwards,
they were stopped illegally so another Penalty awarded, pick and
go, stopped illegally, another Penalty awarded, pick and go. WHY
NO PENALTY TRY ?. Luckily Zac managed to get over the Line.
Score 10-10.
Conversion taken, both Assists Flags went up, Score 10 - 12.
THE REFEREE BLEW FOR FULL - TIME.
But then the Ref spoke to his Assists, the result being the Ref
said the Ball went under the Bar. He said the Score was now 10
- 10 and the game was a Draw.
Controversy followed, did it go over the Bar or under. Video
showed that it went Over, so our Club put in an appeal.
The RFU looked at it and decided that the Ball went over the Bar
to make it 10 - 12, and the Ref had indeed blown his Whistle to
END THE GAME. The RFU decided that once the game was over no
action taken by the Referee, or anyone else, could be admisable,
so they gave the Win to Roth as they were in the lead When the
Referee blew for game over. You would have thought that the
Referee would known the Rules ?.
Personally I thought that today's game was good to watch, it may
have been scrappy at times but there was a lot at stake for both
Teams and they both went for it.
Without doubt Stourbridge had the better of the First-Half, they
had us pinned in our own half for a period of 25 mins and it was
a battle for our Lads to defend their line. Stourbridge scored a
Converted Try and Penalty Goal. Minogue kept us in the game
with 3 well taken Penalty kicks. What I can't understand is
that in the 1st Half Stourbridge were awarded 4 Penalties within
easy kicking range, with the Wind at the kickers back, but on
each occasion they went for the corner and on each occasion they
were thwarted.
That was 12 easy points that they gave up. HALF-TIME Roth 9
- 10 Stourbridge
In the second half we kept them pointless, that was a great
effort because Stourbridge were still throwing everything they
had at us. A successful Penalty Kick put us in the lead for the
first time. Our Lads had to keep battling forward and keep the
game tight, one slip up and Stourbridge's Backs could have been
threw to our line.
The driving maul try was the Icing on the Cake, but the missed
conversion meant that any slip up and Stourbridge could have
been threw for a Score to Tie the game.
Now possibly a bit more Controversy, Minogue's last Pen kick at
goal went well wide, BUT, the one shortly before that,
according to me and people around me in the Shed sailed between
the posts about a foot inside the Right hand post. A Big shout
went up, but BOTH Assists kept their Flags Down. Tuesday
nights re-run of the game will show who was right. If it went
in it would not have altered the points we picked up, but it
would have stopped Stourbridge picking up a Losing Bonus Point.
Hull scored 27 points against Harrogate today, they scored 5
tries but only 1 conversion, I hope their kicker has the same
Boots on next week.

There are plenty of games left to play this season and it's
certainly going to be a tight finish. The current Top 5 Clubs
will be expected to beat the Clubs currently in positions 6th to
16th. The games remaining between the current Top 5 Clubs
could well decide who finishes in the Top 2.
These games are -------‐--
March 5th Hull v Rotherham
March 12th Sedgley v Stourbridge
March 26th Hull v Sedgley
April 9th Stourbridge v Fylde
April 16th Fylde v Hull

No shame in losing Away at Hull, just a pity that in coming
back from 15 - 0 down to 15 - 17 ahead, we couldn't hold out for
the last 2 mins of the game to achieve what would have been an
outstanding result. But that game is another one that's now in
the Clubs History. The rest of the games this season have lots
of Promise and Potential.
All of them are Winnable and the Lads should have the confidence
to know that they can do it, and what a way it would be to
finish the season.
I think we all would have believed that this was going to be a
close fought game, so I have One Small Gripe. I am Not now, not
have I Ever been a Rugby Coach, but with a game like this part
of my Pre Match talk in the Changing Room would be, " This is
going to be a close game and we need to Win it, so take Every
Point on offer ". A dropped pass in the Eleventh minute
prevented us going in for a Try, sad but that happens. We also
turned down Two early kickable Penalty attempts at Goal in
favour of going for the Corner, both of them came to nothing. We
should have had 6 points on the scoreboard. Nothing wrong with
going for the corner when we're in front and going for the Bonus
Point, but those 6 points could have given our Lads a big early
boost.
As Baz said " There's a lot of Rugby left to play this season ",
and so there is, so let's enjoy it and carry on giving the
Squad the best support we can and the end of the season will
finish just as it should do.
