Is anybody surprised by what's happening with the Championship.
It was opened up with a great fanfare 10 yrs ago(2009 / 2010) by
the RFU as the second Fully Professional English League. It's
Never been that, as some Clubs over the years have been run as
Semi-Pro. The RFU gave money each season to the Club's to help
them, but this was Never enough. It took the RFU 4 yrs to
find a sponsor for the League, and in season 2013 / 2014
Greenking took on that mantel. The Clubs thought that more
money would be coming their way, but NO, it went into the RFU's
coffers. Greenkings sponsorship as now ended, so for this
season the RFU have cut their payments to the Championship by
40%, and it was going to cut all payments from season 2021 /
2022. They blamed the Club's for not achieving all the
principle points agreed at the inception of the Championship.
The Guillotine Blade was going to fall, and the Heads of all the
Club's would have fallen into the Basket together.
Since Bristol last went back to the Premiership, there hasn't
been another Club that would have had a Cat-in-Hells chance of
surviving if they had been promoted. What has happened in the
last few seasons, is what should have happened, that is that
the Club relegated from the Premiership goes straight back up
the following season. Had any other Championship Club gained
promotion, they would have been Rolled Over in every game and
       then relegated Beaten and Broken.
Clubs, in particular Ealing and Pirates, have spent at least
Hundreds of Thousands of Pounds chasing the Impossible Dream,
and where has it got them.
It's a Sad, Sad situation, but unless the number of Clubs in the
Premiership is increased to 14, it will remain with the current
12 plus Saracens. The Drawbridge will not be pulled up, it will
be Burned so that it cannot come down again.
If they decide to reverse this, in the distant future, It will
take many many many years to build a new Drawbridge, and then it
will probably be made in TAIWAN.

Can’t add anything to that Winger. Bang on the nail for me. I
think it will be - The premiership and then the championship
will be the highest non- professional league. Might be a good
thing, I don’t know, but I can see that direction of travel.

I think we can all except that the Premiership will be
Ringfenced sooner rather than later, but there are other
       changes being muted.
There's talk of the Six Nations being put back to the end of the
season. From the RP yesterday, "Rugby's global powerbrokers
have confirmed that the Six Nations is in the process of being
moved out of its Winter habitat". A joint communique from the
Six Nations and SANZAR points to the oldest annual International
tournament in any sport being pushed back to a late April or
early May finish. In 2016 the great Welsh Winger, Gerald Davies
said, "The Six Nations should be the peak of the European
Season, so why not reschedule it and make it the Grand Finale".
I think that I would agree with that.
There was talk 2 or 3 weeks ago regarding changing our season
from Sept / Apr to run Dec / July. This was to aligned the
Northern and Southern Hemisphere seasons. One of the reasons
for this was to make it easier to fit in International Games and
Tours between the two Hemispheres. These talks have been put
back due to the current World C ovid 19 pandemic.
These two changes are just at the discussion stages. I can see
the Six Nations being moved, but I think there will be long
discussions regarding changing our season. The problem with
changing our season is that it would again impact on when the
Six Nations are held. Would the stay Apr / May or change to
       July / Aug.
I can envisage interesting times ahead, but whatever disision
are made, they will not suit everyone.
Has long as I can carry on watching the Titans, I don't give a
       Monkeys what disisions they make.

Realistically the Prem is ring fenced just without the fence
being in place. Exeter and Worcester are the only teams who were
non premiership before that have managed to survive and thrive.
Bristol, Irish, Falcons, Northampton and Quins all were
premiership or top tier sides in the first place.
I can't see any teams going up and staying in the near future.
Ealing are close but they don't have the fan base, facilities
(in comparison to other prem clubs bar maybe Bath) and it looks
to me like they have one sole sponsor and we all know how that
ends up when things go wrong. Us (nearly), Welsh, Orrell....

I think a 14 team prem with the champ, nat 1 and nat 2 being 16
teams may open things up a bit for teams to progress. If not the
Champ will end up being the highest league that non prem teams
       can reach.

I wouldn't watch Premier rugby without relegation/promotion. How
many dead rubbers would there be? The final play offs are a
farce anyway. A team can be 20 points clear then lose the title
from a final. Its manufactured rubbish really.
