These are the opening words to a famous Rugby Song before
checking, have a guess which one.

SOSBAN FACH. ( The Little Saucepan ) A song sung at
just about every Wales Home International game in the 50's,
60's 70s and 80's'. Not heard so often now.
First associated with Llanelli Rugby Club, and later the
Scarlets, and derived from Llanelli's Tin Plating Industry,
which used to Tin-Plate saucepans.
It's a song about the troubles of an harassed Housewife. It has
28 lines in total.
I'll be glad when there's some Rugby to write about.

Saw Max Boyce singing that at Sheffield City Hall in the late
seventies

Some versions of it on Youtube by Max; they spell it Sospan
Fach. Also an interesting version by Cerys Matthews. Thanks
for alerting me to that - I was not familiar with it.

During my playing days thro the 60's and 70's, for most of our
away games we travelled on one of RILEY's Coaches. Who remembers
Riley's Coaches, whose Garage was on Sheffield Road opposite the
New Baths Hall. One of the Committee Men at the Club, David
Mills, was married to Clarice, one of Old Man Rileys Daughters.
That's probably why we always got a Coach.
After the game, we supped a few in our opponents Club House then
off we went to the City / Town centre for a few more. Then it
was off to a Chinese or Indian to get some grub to help to soak
the Beer up.
From there it was back to the Coach, if somebody could remember
where it was parked. Before we got off the Coach to go on the
Pub Crawl, we were told what time the Coach would be leaving,
if you were not on the Coach at the given time, it left without
you.
On the journey home it was Rugby Song time, And the air turned
Blue.
The Engineers Song, She was Poor but she was Honest, The
Woodpecker Song, The Mayor of Bayswaters Daughter, Eskimo
Nell, etc etc etc. When we were getting close to Home, we
tended to finish our singing with The Ballard "Heart of my
Heart". Quite often tears flowed. I still remember the words
to that song, and its about 40 yrs since I last sung it.
It not just the games we played in that brings back memories,
but also the fun we had after them, Won or Lost it didn't matter
so much back then. Great Mates and Happy Days.

The best of times.
Seem to remember Riley’s driver “Tom” Bola.
In later days Churm’s buses were used and Mick Churm, who was
driving, would play if a team were short. Might have been a
slight problem if he had been injured!

There's a name from my past, Mick Churm was in the same class
has me for our 4 yrs at Spurley Hey. 1959 -- 1963
