If we can retain the bulk of this squad then we should be able
to bounce back as Caldy have and Hull Ioniand did a few seasons
ago. With some good signings in key areas we can be a force in
that league. All depends on player retentions and who we can
manage to attract to Rotherham at that level!

Something else we have to consider and is equally important is
Supporter Retention, Even though our last 5 seasons have not
really been acceptable, Champ 10th, Champ 11th, Champ 12th,
Nat 1 6th, Nat 1 14th, we have still retained a decent
core of supporters, and Heroes all of them. It's easy to
abandon a Team / Club that's losing game after game, but truly
Heroic to continue in supporting them. We have, over the last
few seasons, lost a good number of supporters, but has I've
said many times in the past it's not the people who abandon a
Team / Club when its losing, that matter, but the one's that
continue to attend.
People don't have to come to every game to be classed as Good
supporters, we all have other things we Have / Got to do at
times. There are quite a lot who do attend all games, both Home
and Away, they are the ones who deserve applause.
We will hopefully be Kicking Off on a new adventure in September
when I'm confident that our Core Support will remain. If we
have a good start to the season then who knows, we might pick
up a few more Apostles. Of course with 6 Clubs within easy
reach of us, we may hopefully pick up a good number of away
supporters, to help put money into the Club.
Anyway stay safe, and I look forward to us all walking back
into the Lane again.

Does anyone think that we should be signing a Dedicated Backs
Coach ?
Cookie was Fitness and Conditioning Coach this season, perhaps
he could do it, Hopefully he'll be staying.

That would be a great asset. Jamie would be a good option. We
definitely need a bit more creativity in the backs. At times we
play really well but we did tend to get a bit one dimensional.
Having someone with a battle plan in the backs to keep the
opposition guessing will improve our play!

Yes a backs/attack coach would be very useful also a defensive
co-ordinator but like everything else it come down to money, if
one checks programmes from away games this season the richer
Nat1 clubs were awash with coaches to cover many aspects of the
game.

Yes the problem is the specialist knowledge needed for each
aspect of the game. Renders it almost impossible for one person
to achieve all aspects. Hence Steve should be head coach and
play to his specialism and hopefully have some help to develop
other aspects of the game. I would imagine this will be the way
he is thinking based on his track record so no doubt it will
come down to money. Given the current climate that is an
unknown.

It is clear that, in an ideal world, we would have a number of
specialist coaches. Steve Salvin was coaching here at the same
time as Lee Blackett. He clearly made a huge difference to the
effectiveness of our forward play at the time, but would also
have been keyed into Lee's particular approach to backs play. I
would be very happy to see Lee's ideas around support at speed
for players who have made the line break, back in place here.

Support at speed for Players who have made the line break.
Good point made there, setter. Far too often when one of our
players made a break he had little support around him. This is
certainly something our Backs need to work on. We did score
some good tries from good support play, but too often our
breaking player was tackled with non of his team mates near him.
Our Forwards, because they move around together, showed some
good back-up play.
Good back-up play comes from players training and playing
together on a regular basis. This of course is helped by
keeping a squad together for a number of seasons. Here's
Hoping We Can Do This.

Completely agree there winger. I hope we can have a high degree
of stability within this squad for next season . There will
always be movement but if we get can get as much continuity as
possible that would be good. Salvo is just the best start we
could have had.
