Without being in the debrief that’s one we can’t answer.
Something needs to change quick that is for sure.
I’d try to get Smiffy on loan so he can play and be there to
coach!
Was Smiffy there yesterday?
Was Codling?

In the situation we are currently in, even Codling would be
swimming against the tide. We have some good players and some
very good players, most of whome would fit into most other
National One teams. So, as all of you have asked, WHY are we
having such a bad season. I don't have the answer, but I hope
that someone at the Club does and comes up with it pretty quick.
Eleven points away from safety dosen't sound a lot, but the way
our results are going it is enormous.
Looking at it we need to Win our next 3 games and the 3 teams
above us to Lose their next 3 games to simply climb out of the
relegation zone.
Could it happen, Yes. Will it happen, No. I have always said
that I will follow and back the Titans in whichever League they
play, and this still stands, but I honestly thought that we had
reached our level, at this time, in Nat One. I now fear that if
we drop another level we might never find our way back. This is
not defeatist thinking, it is clear thinking. If this did
happen, the only good thing to come out of it would be 10 Derby
games against Sheff Tigers, Otley, Hull, Huddersfield and
Wharfedale.
I have to agree that the Club should bring in some new players
and agree with John Shaw that getting Smithy in on loan as
Player/Coach would be a good start.
Feelers need to be put out now, if not done already, to
Premiership / Championship Clubs. I still think that we have
some very good players at the Club but the Squad needs
refreshing. I don't know what the situation is with Jack
Roberts at Doncaster, but if he is still available for loan,
then he would be a good fit at 12 for us.
I suppose that we should all stay positive and trust that the
Club have something up their sleeve to make things better, if
not then I suggest that we all write a letter to Santa asking
him to be kind to us when he's emptying his sack.
I'll be open to any comments regarding those last four words.

In my opinion a team is much more likely to win a match is their
pack is dominant in all their facets of the game. They provide
the platform for everything else that occurs. At the start of
the season we appeared to have nailed this and victories were
seen, and when we didn’t win the match we were still highly
competitive. However, certainly against Hull and again yesterday
for whatever reason this was not the case and our pack was out
played. In the scrum we were shunted backwards at a rate of
knots, and although the line out worked better we still lost
them at vital times with their jumpers picking us out or us
over throwing. I have read in other threads that we have players
injured, which is unfortunate. I really feel we lack a number 8
who can anchor the scrum and break deference’s down when we get
into the oppositions 22. Last season Seb Nangle-Taylor did this
roll for us. Maka has not featured enough this season through
injury or illness and we don’t appear to have any suitable
players to fill this roll. Those that have featured have tried
hard but due to their physique are not the same. I would go on a
begging mission to Wasps, Accra Lee Blackett to see if he can
help us out with a few more loan players. I was impressed with
the contribution the replacement prop made who I believe is on
Wasps books. I would however, prefer to see a few more “senior
players” who know how to dominate teams. Especially Donnies
squad members who used to play for us. eg Colin Quigley, or
Matt Challinor.
Being an eternal optimist. Moseley were in a similar position to
us last year and remained in the league so their is no reason
why we cannot do it but it will need a lot of hard grafting by
the players, and coaches.

They are a top 3 side; we are currently bottom 3. Their players
individually, were noticeably bigger and stronger than us. They
were also faster, more experienced and technically more
accurate. I believe that every scrum they had was turned into a
penalty (including the one where the ref got in the way).
Given those factors, the final score should have been a lot
worse. What was not in doubt was our players' commitment. Zak
Poole, at the start of the second half, was totally determined
in his urging-on of the other players. They never gave up and
there was no collapse at the end. We defended very well and
pushed them back at times when they had the ball. They are
renowned as the best maulers in the league but we disrupted
well-set mauls on a number of occasions. I think that that the
defence and maul disruption show us that there has been
effective coaching going on in the limited amount of time they
have in coaching sessions. With a young and relatively
inexperienced squad, a change in the coaching set up could take
us a step further backwards.
Get some players back, a couple of wins and some confidence back
and things could stat to look different.

I think Donny have enough problems with lack of forwards due to
injuries to contemplate loaning us one of their better players.

Agree re Donny having enough problems. On the coaching front. A
new coach usually shakes things up and refreshes a team. It has
happened multiple times in our past, it doesn't always last but
it is a fresh start. I am usually one for wanting to stick by
coaches to let them build their team and their plans but right
now we are in danger and I too believe if we drop another level
then we probably won't ever get back unless we had massive
investment. I hope things turn around and I don't doubt that
they can, what i do doubt is that it will with our current set
up, unless the coaches are willing to change their outlook on
how we should play the game. I'm happy for the coaches to prove
me wrong in the next two games. I hope they do.
Like has been said at the start of the season we looked strong,
our pack was functioning and we were well in contention. We have
gone backwards. You can't blame in experience or young. I will
assume these lads have al been playing for at least 10 years
since the mini juniors. You get pretty good at something after
doing it for 10 years. The amount of time the coaches have with
the lads isn't different to last year and won't be much
different to any other club so again i just can't agree with
that. Right now the coaches have to be honest. As i have said
before we have players from last year that were first 15
starters, lads from Leeds etc. We miss Seb, Dolly, Irvine etc
but this season we have a much more balanced squad, maybe a bit
less star quality but overall a stronger more balanced team. We
have a big pack, props are all 18 stone plus bar Will Dennis,
Hookers 16 stone, Bergmanas is 17 odd stone, our second rows are
all 17 / 18 stone. That isn't a small tight 5. No reason apart
from poor technique for us to be getting bullied all over the
park. We bullied scrums last year with back rows at lock.
