       Injury reports

       ---------------------------------------------------------
In an attempt to keep fans up to date I shall publish the
previous injury report that is printed in the home match
programme on here shortly after the most recent home game.
Hopefully this may help minimise the speculation about who is
injured and unavailable to the team. Please be aware that the
report is written 4 days before publication so it may not be
entirely up to date as things do change in the week leading up
to the game however it should help keep fans informed.
Please find below the piece from our game v Rams
       cheers
       David
       Injury Report v Rams 2019
It was a soggy and disappointing weekend all round last weekend!
Hector was walked early so that we could watch the build up to
the RWC Final, that didn’t go as well as expected. Then drove
over to Hull in the rain for the game against Ionians, that
didn’t go as well as expected. Then to cap it all on the drive
back from Hull, Final Score on Radio 5 tells me Sheffield United
have scored three goals and Burnley have scored none!
In terms of injuries during Saturday’s game we had to remove
Conor Field from the game due to a knee problem that looked like
a lateral ligament injury. We will be reassessing him later to
       see how he is progressing.
We have been particularly unlucky with our injury profile so far
this year. We commenced preseason with 3 tight heads, 2 loose
heads and three hookers and in selection for last week’s game,
of our 8 front row players we had only 3 available. Thankfully
Zach, our dual registered Wasps tight head was available!
Fortunately, this week we should be in a stronger position as
our injured players start to return with Will Dennis and Harry
       Newborn available again.
Maka has made a good recovery from his calf injury and should be
available for selection and Jamie Cooke will be available again
so numbers for the coaches to train with and select from will be
greater. We are keeping everything crossed that we don’t pick up
       any injuries in training!
Rikki Stout has commenced running and is progressing very
steadily having completed around 6 sessions of straight line
running with each session being a little tougher than the last.
I heard a rumor that he had been looking for a new lung on eBay,
but I can’t confirm if that’s true! It’s always interesting to
see the difference in players ability to cope with running when
they haven’t been able to do any for a while. Rikki has been as
diligent as anyone I’ve ever dealt with following an ACL
reconstruction and has been working hard on his fitness on
static bikes and felt ‘fit’ however as soon as you add weight
bearing in to the picture (and remember he is a 20 stone + tight
head) the sessions become much tougher due to having to drag the
20 stones along rather than sit on a bike.
Ianto Jones is increasing his weights at the gym and is also
back running again, the next phase for him is to introduce more
       rugby and position specific activities.
Reece Ward is getting increased range of movement in his
shoulder and will be progressing his weights shortly with a view
to rugby /position specific activities in the next 10 days or
       so.
Hopefully we will have a relatively quiet, injury free day today
and the weather will hold off!
       Enjoy the game
       David and Doc

       Injury report v Cinderford
The curse of the front row strikes again……………
It does rather seem that in terms of front row injuries that if
we weren’t having bad luck, we wouldn’t be having any luck at
all! Saturday’s game against Bishops produced two more injuries
to front row player to add to our already extensive list of
       injured forwards.
Harry Newborn and Harry Whitfield both had to leave the field
with ankle injuries during the game last Saturday and both were
fitted with walking boots for the journey home and will be
reassessed at training later. First impressions are that they
are highly unlikely to be available for today’s game though.
Many of you will be familiar with the early management of soft
tissue injuries and the acronym RICE (Rest, Ice, Compress,
Elevate) which subsequently became PRICE (Protect, Rest, Ice,
Compress, Elevate). Latterly this has been changed to POLICE
(Protect, Optimally Load, Ice, Compress, Elevate) but throughout
all it’s guises there are the elements of Ice, compress,
elevate. All our players are aware of this and advised as such
when this type of injury occurs. It would be unfair of me to
mention which of the Harry’s I had to advise to return to his
seat and put his leg up as standing up on a bus doesn’t count as
elevate! I do sometimes wonder if there is more than an element
of truth to ‘what they say about front row players’.
In relation to our other injured front rowers, Rikki had a visit
to Claremont last week to see Alex Anderson our knee surgeon. He
is delighted with Rikki’s progress and the fact that he can run
again. We will be progressing Rikki’s running this week and he
will be moving on to some early change of direction drills. As I
seem to say every week Rikki is one of the most diligent players
I’ve ever had the pleasure to manage following an ACL
reconstruction and is well on track with his rehab.
Ianto and Rees Ward are both progressing well and are doing
plenty of running. This week we hope to introduce some falling
drills into their programme. No alcohol will be involved but
       they will be falling down!
Morgan Bunting also had to leave the pitch on Saturday with a
slight ankle sprain but we hope that by removing him early and
as a precautionary measure he will be ok for this weeks game……he
is a tough fellow……can’t imagine where he gets it from…..answers
       on a postcard to…….
Tom Bullough had to be withdrawn from the published team for
last Saturday’s game when wee arrived at the ground as he had
been unwell but again hopefully he will be fully recovered and
       available for the game today.
Some of you may have seen on social media that DPR is entered
into next year’s London Marathon and is running in aid of the MS
Society, a charity dear to his heart. It would be great if some
of you could help out with his fundraising. I’ve already donated
but informed him that I want my money back if he doesn’t
complete the course quicker than the chap who runs in a full
       deep-sea divers outfit! I can’t repeat DPR’s answer however I
gathered from his words that he thinks it is highly likely that
he will beat the aforementioned deep-sea diver!
Hopefully todays game will be a quiet one for Doc and me
       Enjoy the game
       David and Doc
Missing from this list is Conor Field who has a knee ligament
sprain (lateral ligament) and is improving well following his
       rehab

Please see attached the injury report from the last home game
       program
Just an addition.......unfortunately Gus dislocated his shoulder
in the warm up for training on Thursday. His shoulder was
relocated at the District General Hospital but we expect Gus to
be unavailable for approximately 8 weeks
       Injury Report v Canterbury 2019
It never rains does it? In terms of injured players we have had
another downpour since last writing. Over the last two weekends
have had two costly trips to the south east in terms of
injuries. In the game against Blackheath we had to remove Tom
Bullough from the game due to a shoulder injury. We travelled to
that game with all of our available front row players in the
squad, Toby and Will Dennis, Bergy and Gus and James Armitage, a
player who came out of retirement to help us out in training and
on match days only if absolutely necessary (I think is what he
told his wife!!). In fairness to ‘Armo’ he’s a great lad who has
fitted in instantly and has helped Fozzy carry his kit bags on
match days. I don’t think there is any truth in the rumour that
this has happened because Armo is nearer Fozzy’s age than some
       of the younger players ages!
Also on the injured list for that game was DPR who had sprained
       an ankle the week before.
Leading in to our second trip past the Olympic Stadium in a
week, things were looking up on the injury front. Reece Ward was
able to return from injury and travel as were Harry Dunne and
DPR. However Lewis Wilson picked up a groin strain in training
and was unavailable. Within 7 minutes of the game starting Jamie
Cooke took a bang to the face and when I attended him on the
pitch it was clear he needed his lip sewing back together. I
radioed across to Doc and he took Jamie off to perform some
delicate embroidery on a complicated full thickness tear of
Jamie’s upper lip. Hopefully Doc’s sewing (which looked very
impressive at the time) won’t have left Jamie with a lisp!
In terms of current injured players, just to give you a feel for
how selection is sometimes determined by the medical room, the
following players are at this moment in time unavailable for
       selection:
Rikki Stout, Harry Whitfield, Ianto Jones, Harry Newborn, Lewis
Wilson additionally one or two others who will be reassessed
       this evening prior to training.
The other debate that has been ongoing over the past two bus
trips has been in regard to pork pies! Usually on away trips we
have (about 10.30am) a large pork pie between the staff which
has over the years progressed to two pork pies (one for the way
back!). These pies are provided by two generous
gentlemen/benefactors who wish to remain anonymous but I can
confirm the pies are collected and cut into the appropriate
number of pieces by Mrs Yvonne Foster. As the Blackheath trip
was a lengthy one it was determined a potential 3 pie trip so
another willing donator provided a pie. Sadly this pie was not
of the desired standard by this discerning bunch of porkpie
officianados. Melton Mowbray the pie claimed…….in reality the
pig who had generously donated it’s meat to said pie appeared to
have passed away at the end of a very long life!
Fast forward a week and an ‘award winning pie’ from Fentons of
Tickhill was added to the mix, generally very well received
though some people commented on the thickness of the pastry! If
you would like to submit a pie for judging please leave them
behind the bar prior to an away game and they will be subjected
to the strict but sincere judging processs by the staff on the
       bus!
As this is the last home game before Christmas may we in the
medical department take the opportunity to wish you all a very
happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Enjoy the party in the clubhouse this evening and enjoy the game
       David and Doc

My uncles pork pies were the best.
Unfortunately he retired years ago and now only makes them for
       special occasions.
       Fenton’s are good.

Clarke’s Craft Butchers in Harworth do outstanding pork pies
only a few miles from Tickhill. They also do meat pies which are
top notch. Worth a try if you are in the area

First of all from the medical department we wish you a happy and
prosperous New Year. We hope you had a very happy festive period
and have enjoyed yourselves immensely. Let’s all hope that the
New Year sees an upturn in our fortunes this year both on and
       off the field.
Our last game of 2019 brought more misfortune for us. Not only
was the result a poor one but we suffered more bad luck in terms
of injuries! The way our injury ‘luck’ has been this season,
none of us will be sad to see the passing of 2019! During the
first half of the game against Sale our starting tight head
Reece Ward suffered a knee injury and had to be removed from the
pitch. Assessment at half time and again at full time confirmed
our fears that Reece appears to have ruptured his anterior
cruciate ligament in his left knee. We sent him to the district
general on our return from Sale and he is now booked to see our
knee specialist (Yesterday as you read this) for confirmation of
       our diagnosis.
Later in the second half our replacement tight head Will Dennis
had to be removed from the pitch as it appeared he had ‘sprung’
a rib cartilage. This has left us with a major problem as our
other tight head Rikki Stout is currently recovering from his
anterior cruciate ligament repair in September and is still a
month or so away from returning to play. The good news is that
his rehab is going incredibly well and he is ahead of schedule
compared to where we might expect him to be.
The other bit of ‘good news’ from the Sale game was that Ianto
Jones the young hooker we signed in the summer made his debut in
the game and performed creditably. Ianto signed for us with a
pre-existing shoulder injury that had been ‘managed’ since
December 2018. Once we had assessed him fully we gave him a
strict rehab protocol to perform for a month with the advice
that if he hadn’t recovered after this he would likely require a
shoulder operation. This indeed proved to be correct and he had
his shoulder repaired by our great friend David Potter over in
Sheffield. Ianto stuck to his rehab programme well and made good
progress. It is one of the pleasures of our job to see the
process through from initial diagnosis to the player returning
to the field and as I said it was something of a delight to see
       Ianto play.
In terms of our other injured players they are slowly beginning
to return to the fold and the week off over Christmas should
have helped them. Hopefully by today Tom Bullough, Harry
Newborn, Lewis Wilson and Harry Whitfield should be close to
being available. Gus Defilitto who dislocated his shoulder a
couple of weeks before Christmas is now out of his sling and
increasing his activities but we expect him to be out of action
       for another 6 weeks ago.
Adrienne and I had the misfortune to have to spend Christmas day
night in A&E at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Adie’s 85 year old
mum had spent the day with us. We took her home only to receive
a phone call to say that she had fallen in the kitchen. On our
return I suspected she had broken her hip. The ambulance duly
arrived and once she had been made comfortable we headed across
to the Infirmary. The care she received from start to finish was
outstanding from some very caring NHS staff, her hip was
repaired late on Boxing Day. We really are grateful and we
should all thank our lucky stars we have such fantastic people
and such a good service! Mind you it’s a long time since I spent
a night out until the early morning in Donny (and for very
different reasons!!) and I hope it’s a long time until my next!
Let’s hope for a good, injury free performance today and a
Happy New Year for all of us!
       Enjoy the game
       David and Doc
