What next?
I don’t think we need to panic but I do think now it’s a
relegation battle.
I’d stick with the coaching team and we need to scrap for every
single point.

The tactics are poor and poorly executed. Kick offs are too long
and need to be higher to compete. We kick away possession. I
thought we defended well today. Beaten by a better team although
the ref missed blatant forward passes, a couple of knock ons and
one or two very high tackles.
I must say I’m worried.

Poor result. This season is starting to remind me of the last 2
in the champ. Something needs to change.

Well 10 games in and we do not yet look competitive for this
league. In previous seasons we have said just wait, just wait
and nothing has changed. If there is the resource to create a
change we need it. Yes forward passes etc but Rams were the best
team and far more creative in their play. Can we poach their
coach?

Compared to last week I thought that this was a greatly improved
performance. Their try’s were very well executed and a great
credit to them. I though that where they excelled was the pace
they played at. This is a key area we need to tighten up on and
try and improve. We are certainly now deep in a relegation
scrap. However 2 or 3 victories on the trot will ease the
position. Stortford away next week will be yet another tough
task. I feel their results this season have not reflected their
true position. Let’s hope we can get something out of the game

Spot on Rucko. Rams were organised in defence, ran the ball
very confidently making very few mistakes and were on top in the
scrum for a period.
Having said that, the referee was poor. He gave them their first
try despite a couple of offsides and then that ridiculous
forward pass, basketball style, which none of the officials
could manage to see. He missed them high tackling on a number of
occasions. The linesman shed side first half was completely
useless; saw them take the scrum down when the ref was on the
other side and mumbled into his mike but they got the penalty.
Our defence was better than the score suggests. They were in
positions where they looked certain to score a number of times
in the first half and we held them out. And we stopped their
maul better than I expected; one of the maul disruptions was
awesome.
In attack, Tom Bacon looked penetrative and if the ball had
bounced left instead of right on Dan Leake's kick ahead, he
would have been favourite for that touch down.
Still think the better team won (4th v 14th), but we deserved a
bonus point from a hard fixture.

Yes they were far better drilled than we were and had more
creative play. I think that is where we need to work - how to
creatively break down other teams and have the belief and
confidence to hold the ball and go through phases. We had
flashes of real brilliance in this weeks game (and last weeks)
but they are occasional flashes. We need to string some wins and
so need to ring some differences and changes.

Difficult to get everything right when you have a new team, a
young team and only train a couple of times a week. Rams have
obviously been together a while. According to their website,
they have a 1st XV squad of 55 players. I wonder how long they
will be able to hang on to their centre ( Hayhow); he looked
pretty handy.
