       Leeds Update

The situation at Headingley seems to be getting worse by the
       hour.
Log on to the Championship Forum and read the Rugby Papers
Report. There's a Link under LEEDS.
Unless of course theres someone bright enough to put a Link on
       here.

       Thanks Duncang
I, and others, have often said that "Chasing the Dream" can
become a Nightmare. Since we adopted playing in a League
System, and then Professionalism, many Clubs have either Folded
or Sunk through the League's. Have Clubs learned anything from
this, apparently not. London Welsh was the latest warning of
the consequences of spending money that is not in your Bank
       Account.
Depending on the outcome of Leeds latest problems, they May go
out of existence and, whatever people's thoughts are about them,
it would be a Tragedy, for Yorkshire, the North of England and
       for Rugby Union.
Leeds had the potential to be a great club, but they decided to
try to reach the Unreachable Star before they had developed a
Spaceship capable of getting them there.
This should be a Final Warning to other Championship Clubs who
continually talk the talk about promotion to the Premiership
when in reality they can't walk the walk, because they have two
broken legs and are being pushed around in wheelchairs. In
time physiotherapy may help, but at what cost. Clubs really need
to take a reality check before its their turn to take the fall.
I believe that Promotion and Relegation should be a major part
of any League System, BUT -----------------

Money is ring fencing the premier. The championship is
struggling. I think the infrastructure needs to be considered as
so much depends on the 'backer'

       other clubs:

       Seen on the Championship Forum
1st Poster Will the last Leeds player to leave please turn
       the lights out
2nd Poster They are already out, they haven't got the means
       to pay the bill
I think the only players left now, are six of the NZ players
signed mid-season. Apparently they are demanding that their
2yr contracts are paid in full.

To survive they are going to have to rely on the goodwill of
their Creditors, who have all lost money, and their agreeing to
       the CVA.
The RFU will have to agree to the Club's new plan, not a
       foregone conclusion.
Then there's the matter of having to sign a completely new squad
       --------- and guarantee paying them.
They say they haven't found any new investors, so if their
Creditors don't agree to the CVA, then their survival plan will
be a non starter. A sad situation, but all off their own
       making.
The RFU will have to hope that if they allow the Club to
survive, then they wont end up with another London Welsh
situation. If the Club fails during the season and points have
to be expunged from the other Clubs, then there will be a lot of
       very unhappy people.
The London Welsh fiasco should have been a salutary warning, but
will the RFU have learned anything from it.

No, they stood by and watched Leeds bring in these expensive
       overseas players.

More postings on the Championship Forum regarding players
leaving Leeds. Lots of speculation about what strength of
squad they will have for this season. A Leeds supporter has
posted that the only professional at the Club will be the new
       Head Coach.
There is talk on the Champ Forum (not confirmed by the RFU) that
there could be NO relegation at the end of this season, and
speculation is that Leeds will do just what it takes to stay in
the Championship knowing that even if they lose every game, they
will still stay in that League. This would give them another
Year to try and sort something out.
Even now, at this late stage, if the Clubs backers don't agree
to the CVA, then they could go in to Administration. This
COULD lead to the Club folding.
With only about 12 weeks to the First game what is the RFU doing
about this situation. Richmond are in limbo as to which
division they will be in this season, and will have made
Signings and Preparations to play in National One. This whole
situation is a disgrace and serious decisions should be made NOW
       sooner than LATER.
