In the Rugby Paper, the Board did admit that on reflection the
re-branding to Yorkshire Carnegie, was not a good idea and it
did not have the desired reaction from the other Yorkshire Clubs
and the Supporters of those Clubs.
Well it certainly gained a reaction, it amalgamated the whole
of the Yorkshire Rugby Union fraternity against them. It made
me wonder at the time, that this re-branding idea was thought up
while all the Board was out on a P*s* U*.
I believe that this decision, plus the loss of their £1, 000,000
a year sponsorship deal with the University was the catalyst
which has brought about their current situation. They've been
trying to find backing to help cover their £1m loss, but so far
no one has been willing to put money into the Club, indeed it
looks like some of their current backers are withdrawing their
support.
They play in an excellent stadium, but on Union match days I've
seen more Life in a Tramps Vest. Leeds is fast becoming the
Country's second largest City, so to only attract crowds of
around 2000 / 2500 is not going to bring them the success they
have been chashing at great cost. They need a massive reality
check, move away from Graveyard Headingley and reinvent
themselves as a grassroots Rugby Club. If they lose their
Superior attitude and accept that they are one of many Clubs in
Yorkshire, then who knows, they may gain a better reaction from
the other Clubs.

It’s sad and dire that the Championship isn’t supported better
in monetary terms. However Leeds have managed their affairs
badly. They managed to alienate rugby fans throughout the county
with their arrogant nomenclature. The product was rubbish. The
stadium lacked atmosphere and it wasn’t a pleasant experience
attending.

Log on to the Championship Forum, and read the latest release
from Headingley. Makes interesting reading.
Depending how you read, and understand it, it could be OK for
Leeds going forward, or it could still be a nightmare.

Chris Stirling heading back to Cornish Pirates as DoR, Lucock
off to Donny, Cole to Jersey - will there be anyone left in
Leeds to play rugby at this rate?
