Another loss when scoring four tries. What does that tell us ?

We were beaten by the better side today. They just had more fire
power than us today, they were better coached and far more
clinical. We had a poor first half. 4 or 5 penalties in the
first 20 minutes really hurt us. Good try from Jamie Cooke at
the start of the game, Seb scored a belter too. Our biggest
issue for me today was our inability to hold onto the ball for
more than 3 or 4 phases. Ampthill recycled the ball extremely
well and put us under serious pressure at every breakdown. Our
scrum is very good.
Second half was better, much more even but we still made school
boy errors.
Onto next week.

I have to agree with Chris that we were beaten by a better side
- the form team of the moment, and at the top of the league so
we would expect them to be better.
Having said that, I thought was a positive performance. Our
scrum at least equalled, and probably shaded theirs; the line
out was good overall; we scored four tries against them and we
defended very well for long periods of time. We have a young
squad and they have a lot of players with experience: they were
very good at ripping the ball out in contact, and looking after
the ball when they were tackled. That will get better - I just
hope some of them are still at Roth when it does.
I enjoyed the game better than last week and felt we have made
progress. If we can play like that for the rest of the season,
we will win games.

Yes agreed. They were stronger as Chris says and deserved the
win but we showed in parts that we could run them close. But
look at their team and in particular coaching squad. They had
wily ex prems in the team and a very good coaching squad for the
league. Keep the nucleus of the team as much as we are able and
strengthen the coaching and we will build next year.

We stood up well at times. The backs looked the best they have
done in terms of attacking and creativity however we couldn't
manage more than 4 or so phases which made it pretty impossible
to mount a propper attack. There were positives to take away
from the game. They had huge ball carriers and we dealt with
them very well, they had some sharp quick backs and at times we
cut them up. We just couldn't keep the pressure on without
loosing the ball. Like we have all said many times. If we can
keep a good core of this squad then we will be in a good
position for next year. I see us grabbing a few more wins now.
Probably both home games and potentially next week away to
Cambridge.
Ampthill were the best side I have seen all season so it is good
to have scored 4 tries against them.
