Who will get promoted and Relegated from National 1 this season
   DIR By: Rucko

With 7 and some 8 games to play this season I thought I would
canvas the opinions from Titans Chat as to which team we think
will be promoted and which ones will relegated this season.
I am fairly confident that we won’t do either, but there are a
large numbers of teams in the mix in both categories.
I would say from what I have seen no team will survive with
their present squads in The Championship. I would think the top
team will be one of :Old Ethaniams, Ampthill, Blackheath or
Roslyn Park. Not sure if the top team has to reach ground
standards to go up but having visited Ampthill their set up
       would be questionable.
With three teams being relegated it’s all to play for to avoid
the drop. At the present time Loughborough, Esher and Moseley
occupy the bottom three places. Caldy and Sale are the other
teams I would put into the mix. Moseley, Caldy and Sale have all
       played one less game.
       My prediction would be
       Old Elthaniums as Champions
Loughborough, Esher and Caldy to be relegated
       What do others think

Pretty fair assessment there. Inclined to agree with your
choices at this point in time. I don't think any team looks to.
E at championship level. Also looking like Richmond or Hartpury
       for the drop.

Yes, the top 4 teams look as if they could be in a close race.
Having said that, if OEs can win at Ampthill on the 9th March, I
think that would make them clear favourites. If not, it all
looks even closer. Blackheath do not have any more games
against the other top4 teams, but may be too far off.
I think your assessment of Ampthill's facilities may be the
nicest thing anyone has ever said about them. Certainly the hole
in the ground behind 2 six-foot fence panels is the most basic
gents' toilet arrangement I have seen since a visit to France in
the early 1960s. And a number of their 'supporters' were quite
       unpleasant.
At the bottom, there are a few crucial matches coming up:
Moseley / Loughboro; Moseley / Esher; Loughboro / Esher. I have
a feeling, like you that Moseley will get themselves out of it
       again.
3 of the top 4 still have Rotherham to play. If we could pinch
a couple of wins there, it could get interesting. Not an easy
       last two games this season.

I agree there are no N1 teams that would survive in the
Championship with their current squads. I think OEs have a shot
at the title but having to travel to Dillingham Park to play
Ampthill will be a tough ask, especially given the reverse
fixture when Ampthill missed a fairly easy final penalty that
would have won rather than drawn the match for them. It all may
depend on OEs final match when they host the Titans! If you are
travelling to SE London for that match I should warn you the
       facilities are rather basic!

I'm going to back Ampthill for the title. I think they have the
best chance of staying in the championship from what I have seen
this year and if they can recruit well. It will be very close
between Elthamians and Ampthill. I do agree though with what has
been said, I can't see anyone surviving the championship. There
is a significant difference in the pace of the game and the
power in the forwards between the two leagues.
As for relegation, i think it will be the current bottom three
unfortunately. Moseley, Esher and Loughborough have been down
that end all season and haven't seemed to be able to get out of
that position. Caldy started very strong so I think they will
just hang in there and Sale Sharks won't let Sale FC drop I
       don't think.
If we are not careful we could drastically drop places over the
next few weeks if we can't string some wins together.
Looking forward to Ampthill at home.

Amazingly we have managed to get beat by Loughborough, Moseley,
Sale and Plymouth all in lower league positions. Ah, what could
       have been!

Important win for Moseley today. They're scraping through again.

With one game to go it looks like Ampthill have claimed top spot
and will get promoted. They have Loughborough to play in their
final match. At the bottom of the league there are still a
number of teams that could mathematically go down
Present reading of the table from the bottom
Loughborough 56 Pts. To play Ampthill
Esther 56 Pts. To play Blackheath
Cambridge. 59 Pts to play. Sale
Caldy. 61 Pts to play Moseley
Moseley. 64. Pts to play Caldy

Well all true as far as it goes but if Ampthill were to suffer
an unlikely 5-0 defeat, OEs would need 5 points against the
Titans. If you were to pick up 2 points that would be fine. At
all events, enjoy your trip down to our field in a fortnight
though be warned you might find the facilities a bit basic. We
do though for the last two matches have now a temporary stand,
so the infirm can sit down!
