Although not a great advert for flowing rugby with the ref
giving his new Christmas whistle a thorough workout, (But only
for one team). I am proud to say that our boys could have spat
out their dummies in the first half. But they just got on with
the game. Our second try was a peach of a try. I thought we were
going to try and maul it over the line like Moseley did all
game, but it was a class training ground move. If I had to watch
try after try from the rolling maul every week I might not come
to watch every other week, but I suppose you stick to your
strengths. All in all the shed lifted the roof on when the
conversion went over and another close fort win went our
way.Stay Humble.

What is it with our fixtures against Moseley?
They always appear to be niggerly affairs with poor refereeing.
I remember the occasion when Craig Maxwell-Keys was the referee
and we had 3 players in the bin.
Moseley came with a very simple game plan
1) to slow the game down at every opportunity,
2) gain penalties,
3)kick to the corner
4) then maul it over.
It very nearly worked but full credit to the team for sticking
at it grinding out the win.
I think our narrow pitch aided them with their tactics and also
the strange interpretation of the laws of the game

I was thinking the same thing, Rucko.
Actually, it wasn't Maxwell-Keys' fault to some extent; he did
not blow for any of the three incidents. They were all
'helpfully' pointed out to him by the touch judge, Lionel
Spooner. The straight red for Tom Cruse was rescinded because
he had not done anything wrong.
It is not strictly limited to Moseley in Lionel's case; he
returned to display his fertile imagination by asking a female
referee to show a straight red to our winger, jumping for the
initial drop-out, after only a couple of seconds had elapsed.
Fortunately, she declined his proposal and only gave a yellow.
Moseley's ground( and weather) and style of play have given us
some highs but a lot of lows over the years - they are very
awkward to watch. This from someone who went to Moseley Grammar
School and followed Moseley until emigrating to The People's
Republic of South Yorkshire 49 years ago.
I still think that this refereeing was shabby. Presumably when
the Moseley coach, in the third half, referred to both teams not
being able to play due to the circumstances, he was referring to
the officiating?
Still it's gone and next week will be even better.

That sounds good to me, he could play in any of the Backs
positions. He's a good, strong and nippy player. Has a few
of us have said, Barks is a good player and coach, be he is not
a Stand-Off. Is it time to try someone else at 10 ?. YES

On the other hand, if you were an opposition player trying to
run through the 10 channel, you wouldn't be too happy to see Joe
Barker in your way, instead of someone a little daintier.
Plus if you are a player / coach, 10 is a good place to see
what's happening and to have an effect on the way the game is
being played.

Although Joe is not a natural number 10 why alter a team which
is performing exceptionally well and better than most had
expected at the start of the season. We are a very young team
and an older player at 10 is what we need. How much of how the
ethos of th team is down to the player coach I don’t know, but
at he present time I would stick with him. Let’s look at the
positive things he brings to the club/game not the negative

In the “third half “ which could have been renamed the fourth
half ! due to us playing three halves in the game 🤔 Nick
Craggs named the Mossely number 5 as their man of the match !
even though he indicated it was maybe a bit of a surprise, so
was he just trying to butter up this man mountain as a possible
new signing for us next season ? or am I being a naughty boy for
suggesting this,surely this sort of thing never goes on in Rugby
circles 🤫

Dolly at ten could work. Barks is a great coach and good player
however our backs game is a little one directional. The backs
seem to just work down the line rather than creating moves to
open up space. No offence is intended towards Joe as he has done
a fantastic job with this squad against the odds but with a more
natural 10 in place i think we would be making more breaks and
scoring more tries. With the likes of Abrahams, Cooke and Dunn
in the centres we should be breaking the line more often and
getting our big wingers better ball to finish.
I understand the if its not broke don't fix it mentality but we
could really improve in that area with an out and out 10! Would
Barker be better placed on the side of the pitch so he can pick
out the openings of the opposition and relay that to the team ?
It worked for Blackett.

Setter, I wouldn'd say that Alex Dolly is "Dainty". He's an
excellent Full-Back and 15 and 10 are positions that are often
interchangable. He has, in that position, made some good runs
and put in soom good tackles. Playing at Scrum-Half he has an
eye for the quick break, and nifty feet. Both these attributes
could come in handy playing at 10. Probably our best 10 is
Irvine 5' 11" 13st 5lb. Dolly 5' 9" 13st 3lb, so not much
difference.
Joe is a good Coach and Centre, but that doesn't mean that he
has to start every game. He, as a Coach, needs to spend some
games in the Tower with Martin, assessing and discussing whats
happening on the Field. A Birds Eye view is better than a Worms
Eye view when looking to see whats happening
We can all have our idea's has to who should play in what
position, and as the Team is doing so well, I don't mean to be
over critical.

Abrahams --- 13 Dunne --- 14 Field --- 15 Leake
Backs Subs if one -- Dever if two -- Dever + Cooke
