A view of the History of Worcester v Roth from a Worcester
perspective

In anticipation of our visit to Worcester on Saturday, one of
their long term supporters and main man on the Worcester
supporters Rugby Network site, Faithful City, has publicised a
fantastic article about the rivalry that existed between our two
clubs in the late nineties and early noughties.
The article entitled:
WHEN ROTHERHAM MEANT EVERYTHING can be found by following this
link

It certainly brought a tear to my eye reading it as it
represented the most remarkable period in our history to date.
Older supporters will recall we had a presence on the Rugby
Network site for a number of years and the rivalry was immense
and existed right through the noughties and can still be viewed
as per link below:

Worcester’s presence on that platform is by far the most active
non Prem site on there and Faithful City has produced great and
very informative information on and kept it current with
constantly relevant through years of dedication to his club.
When Worcester returned to the Championship it caused a lot of
disenchantment among many supporters across Rugby, but one thing
to remember here is that as a supporter the feeling of losing or
coming close to losing your club from the community is
devastating.
We know only too well how that felt back in 2004.
Worcester actually went through it, but the supporters are the
lifeblood of the game. They cannot influence what goes on behind
the scenes at board room levels, but to go through several
seasons without a presence on the field while seeing the rest of
the Rugby Community going about its business without them must
have been devastating.
I know it has happened to several other clubs, but in each case
it is the supporters that suffer.
The piece by Faithful City captures that history of our battles
on and off the field but it also recognises that both clubs
after a number of years of adversity are on the way back.
Time to make more History.

I gave this a read last night and it was brilliant. It is a
great perspective on the history of both clubs. As much as there
was a heated rivalry, it also pushed both clubs forward as
strong competition does. It is a very interesting perspective.
Both clubs have been on a massive journey and seem to be coming
out of the other end in a strong position once again. For us The
Champ seems to be our ambition which I believe is the correct
thing, becoming a strong competitive Champ side again playing
good rugby. For Worcester they seem to be set on the Premiership
and good luck to them. It does seem a risky ambition given how
it went last time but they have the fan base and infrastructure
to give it a go again so fair play.
For me, last weekend showed just how great our club is and that
this level is a brilliant level to play at.
