Players for Newcastle

Newcastle have a double header on the 5th September. We play
them first and then they play Glasgow Warriors. Intuitively, I
think we will be playing academy and fringe players. I think
this will be at least up to champ standard though and possibly
just above (especially if the odd star features).
From my quick tallying there are 11 players yet to feature: JB,
Corben Ollivent, Reuben Dyer, Kieran O'Meara, Jack Howells, Jack
Delaney, Frazer Hastie, Phil Redmayne, Frankie Gascoigne, Alfie
Bell and Tobi Ademakin. 9 players have featured twice already.
(Hayes,Hudson,Okafor,Ravuvu,Maguire,Guthrie,Stone,Brown and
Fozzy).
I am guessing Gascoigne and Bell will be the engine room, But
what will the rest of the team be?

Don't think either of them will be there for the start of the
season due to injury.

Starting hooker is 50 / 50. And Harvey knows JBs level so may
put the 2 new 9s into this key pre season fixture. I think he'll
also keeping going with big John in the 2nd row.

That looks like a very strong squad. Obviously I do not know the
injury status of our squad, I dont know the new players and so
it is tricky to tell which are the key players that are likely
to form the core of the champ matchday 23. It is important to
put in a good showing and so I cannot imagine that the
development side of our squad will feature strongly in this
match and that it will be as stronger team as Harvey can muster.
I dont know much about Jack Howell or Reuben Dyer (in terms of
injury or quality) but I thought some of the players that
haven't featured might get a few minutes under the belt. Its a
fallow week so plenty of training for the lads and a chance to
stake a claim for the shirt.
I am interested to know how the established players are fairing
against the new recruits, there have been one or two comments
which suggest that they have all put in a good showing but there
is such quality in the new recruits that some of them may be
consigned to the bench or reserve squad.

Looks about right to me, albeit I’d be surprised if Ryan McGloin
wasn’t involved. I’d back somebody with his Aus pathway
experience & try scoring record in top level Aus club rugby to
make an impact in the Champ & he covers the back 3 positions.

Frazer still has a boot on his foot, which is the reason he
hasnt played. Before his injury he did impress me with his play.
