Next season and longer term

The dust has settled on an amazing season it came down to the
last game and we did it. Two promotions in 3 years awesome.
Looking ahead to next year and being back in tier 2 and Champ
rugby 🏉.
Firstly we have 5 players in the rugby paper team of the year
for Nat 1. In the pack big John in the back row and Alistair
Donkor in the front row. And three amazing backs. Issac at 15,
Jackson our try scoring machine on the wing. And our top points
scorer and drop kick supremo (what a moment) Lloyd Hayes.
The step up of a division brings many challenges. But we should
retain most of our top players.
Harvey is the key to all of this. We have a top drawer guy and
he's pulling the strings across the board. I would expect 12-15
new signings across all positions..We will need more depth and
experience. Fitness will have to go up a level but having had
two strong years in national 1 gives us a good platform for
champ rugby. I think we have to forge links with a Prem team and
loan players as so many in champ rugby have. Newcastle is a good
option. I remember we picked up several good youngsters from
them back in the day including Harris in the centres who went on
a lions tour and is going back to Newcastle next season. Staying
up next year and being competitive in all games is the realistic
goal. It's exciting times.
A key factor is finally we can develop the ground as well as the
first team which is key for getting casual fans to attend as we
have never had great facilities.
And one final note mini and junior rugby is the long term driver
for any club, Roth is no exception. I hope Rotherham will
continue to improve this from zero 2 years ago, it's the reason
I'm on hear typing away 31years after starting playing for Roth
as a 15 year old. Roths success is fundamentally down to money
and owners who played for the club (think Mike Yarlett, Nick
Cragg). Without them we would be many levels down playing junior
rugby. Now we only have a first team in adult rugby. No 2nds
3rds and 4ths built off the minis juniors and colts. So wheres
the next Mike or Nick coming from and where next generation of
std fans coming from? This side of the club has always been
under developed. I know it's a footy area but we have to do more
and develop our own if not for the first team players, then for
the long term supporters base of the club and a potential
benefactor. I hope this is also part of the long term planning
for Roth to thrive as a top drawer club with realistic and well
supported ambition.
So onwards into the champ!!!
