It sounds like ring fencing to me from that page. It is
certainly not meritocracy. Whoever wins Nat 1 should be promoted
to the Champ and whoever is bottom of the Champ should be
relegated.
There was also talk at the start of the season of the side
coming in second in Nat 1 having a playoff with the 13th
positioned Champ side. This link suggests that is no longer
happening with it due to being a 'Tender' process which in my
experience is people bidding to 'win' a job / project. Certainly
not sports meritocracy where sides move between leagues based on
results.
If this is what is happening with the Championship, who knows
whats happening with the Premiership. Ealing being the best side
in the champ have no chance of promotion and Worcester will be
ushered in to the Prem due to some technicality which in the
world of sports is ridiculous.
It is a strange time in Rugby. I can kind of understand the Prem
being financially ring fenced but below that should be Rugby as
we know it, meritocracy. Ealing run a high risk of going bust as
other clubs have. Nearly us. But I do think they deserve their
shot having won the champ a few times and will most likely win
this season.
Sport should be a meritocracy and if a promoted side don't have
the facilities they should be allowed the time to develop that
side of things.
Hypothetically say we were promoted to the Prem and competed we
should be given the time to develop off the field to meet the
standards as our TEAM would be deserving and Prem rugby would
bring extra monetary opportuinities.

A way to get Wasps and Worcester back in the matrix as high as
possible without upsetting the Premiership cartel?
