Bristol team (Dings) v Bath
By: Rucko Date: November 2, 2025, 10:41 am

Did anyone spot the large number of Dings players we played
against a couple of weeks ago turned out for Bristol against
Bath this weekend. In my opinion it makes a complete mockery of
our league if the opposition can,in certain matches strengthen
their squad and not in others

I covered this subject on the www.leaguerugby.co.uk National 1
forum shortly after we played Dings, but specifically to the
Bristol v Bath Cup game on Friday night I have listed below the
players who played v Bath and also for Dings at home to Roth,
I have also listed the number (position) they played and also
the minutes they played in the respective games as follows:
2 Thomas Gwilliam played whole game v Bath .
Also played 2 for 69 mins v Roth
3 Jimmy Halliwell played 59 mins v Bath. Played at no. 3 for 71
mins v Roth
4.Paddy Pearce played whole game v Bath. Played at no. 8 for 69
mins v Roth
7 Kofi Cripps played whole game v Bath. Played full game at
no. 7 v Roth
12 Victor Worsnip played whole game v Bath. Played whole game at
13 v Roth
and two replacements as follows
20 Kenzie Jenkins replaced Bristol no.8 after 18 mins . Played
full game at no. 6 v Roth
22 Evan Morris replaced Bristol fly half after 72 mins played 15
v Roth for 72 mins
On the Bristol Bears website they also list on the game review,
the number of games each player has played for Bristol & also a
second list saying how many games the SYSTEM players have
played.
5 of them are on the Bristol list and 2 of them on the SYSTEM
list.

The National League rules are clear: no more than 3 loan
players or 6 England academy players. It really does seem like
Dings broke those rules. Roth Beat park (narrowly) and then
Park put 68 past Sedgely and then Sedgley beat Dings who put 50
points on us. It is crazy!!

Just to be clear, under RFU Regulation 14, National 1 clubs can
field up to six England Academy Players (EAPs) and three loan
players per matchday squad.
I have no knowledge of the respective classifications of the
Bristol players in question, so I can only assume it was within
the rules.
Rules are one thing, but “l’esprit du jeu”, as the French say,
is quite another.

Yes, I jsut re-read! that is potentially 9 players that don't
play for your team in the squad then :o. Seems odd.
We now have Birmingham Mosely and they have had a mixed season
thus far but look dangerous and will provide another tough test
for us.

In my above match comments I stated:
7 Kofi Cripps played whole game v Bath. Played full game at
no. 7 v Roth
He was actually injured very early in the game for Bristol
against Bath. This wasn’t stated in the link I provided and I
found this out having read another report on Bristol Live.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

I see 5 players who turned out for Dings v Roth are in the
Bristol team to face Argentina XV at Ashton Gate later tonight
(Friday) with 1 more on the bench.
Likely it would have been 7 but for Kofi Kripps getting injured
for Bristol early on against Bath last week. I have read reports
he has since had an operation on his leg.
Owing to the short turnaround between this game and Dings v Sale
FC on Saturday, and also given the level of the opposition I
can’t imagine any of the 6 players playing for Bristol tonight
being involved for Dings on Saturday.
Nathan Langdon also is on the bench (no.16) for Bristol Bears
having signed as emergency injury cover. Nathan signed from Sale
FC and played hooker against Roth in the first game of the
season.

Looks like Dings struggled today without their Bristol
contingent against Sale.

Well it is what it is now, we know Dings do this so we need to
be prepared. They pulled a few results like this last season.
Doesn’t make it right but we have to be aware of that
possibility.
When we got going we won the second half so there is some
positivity to take there.
Are DR’s classed the same as loan players? If not then Dings
played within the rules and you have to blame the RFU system not
the team for me.
