Both Plymouth and Blackheath lost which shows how tight this
league is. All games are tough but we are in a very good
position.

Do you have a link for this Winger?
No, sorry. I simply looked at how many of Dings squad
were on Bristols squad lists, 1 ist team player and 6 Academy
players.

I looked at the listings in the rugby paper and Dings fielded 6
changes from the team that got thrashed by Plymouth last week. 4
of these were Bristol Academy players (at least). There is a
player listed as "A.N. Other" who could have been an import. It
is such a surprising result that I find myself fishing for
answers, from what I have read Dings really turned on the style
and just out-played us, but that is some turn around from last
week. With Plymouth losing at Judds, next Saturday will provide
a really good benchmark for where we are at. I guess the
Birmingham Mosely win against Blackheath was also surprising so
it does show how the matches can turn on small margins, with
some of our big wins being forged in the latter part of the
second half. I'ts a really tough league whereby you need to be
at or around your best for 80 minutes.

We scored 5 tries - they just scored more.
The inexperience of the 9 and 10 did not seem to contribute
significantly to our issues when we had the ball. We only got
pounced on once, I think.
The surprises for me were: almost every breakdown, we gave away
a penalty (maybe the 2 Brizz flankers?); our line was broken
more times in one afternoon than the whole of the rest of the
season put together - a lot of it through the middle; number of
scrums probably in single figures.
It felt a bit like the Bishops Stortford game last season.
It will still be good to get some of the missing players back.
Noticed Jackson Barling and Isaac Shaw both limping at points in
the 2nd half - hope they are both ok.

That’s a strange take. 9 and 10 were fine and have played
together plenty before here, back three also did well. Today was
all down the forwards coming off second best and getting out
fought and out rucked - we didn’t see the ball for the first 15
minutes. Dings were more up for it and stacked full of ringers
from Brizz too.

I don't think it is strange take what so ever. When you have a
proven player at this level in a key position it is normal to
question them not been selected particularly when this area
seems to have struggled. Others have also pointed out that this
area wasn't as strong as it could have been which is to be
expected in there first game together at this level. University
Rugby is one thing, competitive National 1 is another. In this
league 6 wins from the first 7 is a good result. I can't
remember the last time anyone went unbeaten in this league.
Potentially Ealing 10 or so years ago, though I think they lost
1 or 2.
As for the Bristol 'Ringers', Dings had Bristol academy players
in the starting line up and 1 first team though not a first team
shoe in. We are not looking at 7 players who are going to be in
Bristol's first team each week. We know Dings have the link with
Bristol and do come away with these performances from time to
time. I think they had a few out of the blue results like this
last season too if my memory is correct.
As I said before, we don't need to make excuses, we got beat by
the better side on the day. Similar to last seasons home game
against Bishops Stortford. Now we dust ourselves off and go
again this week against a solid Tonbridge side. This next string
of 5 games will give us a great look as to where we are.
Tonbridge, Blackheath, Rams and Plymouth all coming up.

It is difficult to establish a "form book" in this league as the
results swing all over the place, you can get beaten by a team
that got thrashed by a team that you have beaten. It doesnt
always add-up and can be a real head scratcher. Hopefully, it
will have sharpened us up in that we came across a team that on
that day operated at a faster pace than we had been used to. We
still scored 5 tries so our attack is still functioning, we
might want to shore up the defense a little going forward
(although it was pretty good against one of the most dangerous
attacking sides in the league the previous week). Judds have
taken some scalps, with comparable scorelines to ourselves, and
have just beaten Plymouth so they are a serious threat. I think
they have Nathan Earle playing (ex England International and a
player who was a star in the U20s circuit). Should be a great
match. Hope we can select from close to full strength. Does
anyone have any injury updates??

My point, as with the comment above yours, is that it had no
effect on the game as we didn’t see the ball. Had you watched
the game, you’d know. But yes, incredibly tight league, which
makes for much excitement.

Chris has watched Roth for 30 years and has a great
understanding of the team and the squad. It is rare we miss a
game , home or away. He has a passion for the club and indeed
played for them as a junior. We both rate Corbyn and have seen
him play very well indeed for us, so it was a genuine question
coming from the right place. As he said, we would both have
taken 6 out of 7 at this stage. We knew we had assembled a
strong squad as soon as we saw that first half at sale this
season. We will be up there but both thought Dings was a
surprise. Mind you they did push us last season. Sadly we were
away this weekend but we really like going to Dings. A mate has
coached there also.

Fair enough, but going on multiple sites to pin the loss on two
new, young, inexperienced signings is not cool, especially when
that clearly was not why we didn’t get the W.
We move on and let’s get up for this weekend.

I have not tried to 'pin the loss' on anyone. That is frankly
ridiculous and the real 'strange take'. It seems like you may
have a vested interest in one of these players to take simple
comments so personally. Competitive sport brings criticism.
There is a massive difference between saying two players seem to
have struggled than saying the loss was entirely the fault of
those two players. On this board I was really questioning the
selection choice more than the performance of the 9 and 10.
Players can only play to their ability. These are message boards
where you discuss games. It is not always going to be constant
praise particularly if you loose.
