Totally dominant performance. Every player played well. We could
have scored a few more to be honest, we missed a couple. Hull's
only try came from a dropped ball that was quickly picked up by
Sam Pocklington to nip in under the posts, apart from that they
offered nothing in attack. They got knocked back in most
tackles, they were consistently driven back and made to kick
when they had the ball. Their scrum matched up to ours quite
well. Our defence was incredible.
Every player looked great. Our players from last year speak for
themselves really. I was extremely happy with them and the new
guys.
Jackson Barling looks incredible, he made yards every time he
had the ball. A few breaks and the typical Rugby League style
winger, hard in the tackle and great offloads. He made one
particularly great break fending off about 3 or 4 of their
players. They really struggled with him, he is a quality
addition. I'm sure he will become a fan favourite. Reminded me a
bit of John Feeley, very difficult to get a hold of, gritty and
powerful.
Isaac Shaw, good under the high ball, very fast and powerful. He
has big shoes to fill in replacing Ronnie Du Randt and Jack and
he really looked great. Very classy, pacey, hard in the tackle.
Awesome.
Fraser Hastie looked amazing coming off the bench. Very physical
player, powerfull tackler and can carry the ball. He was very
aggressive, a bit of a Matt Challinor type. You wouldn't want to
play against him.
Callum Bustin made a massive difference off the bench, he will
score a lot.... as always.
Will Metcalfe looked very sharp at 9, very quick and no messing
about getting the ball out and recycled. A classic 9.
Xavier Valentine - very strong prop, looked very good, solid in
the scrum and looks mobile.
Kieran O'Meara looked fast on the wing, made a break or two,
thought there was a bit more to come from him. His height is
definitely an advantage for chasing the high ball.
Mitchell Lacey-Babalola was a very fast and powerful inside
centre, scored two I think, looks quite promising.
Jamie Major looked good coming on for Luke Cole, modern style
hooker very mobile.
Tom Bairstow looks a very good prop. He came on in the second
half and looked powerful and mobile. Modern style prop.
Thats about it from memory. I expected a bit more from Hull I's,
it was a testament to the our lads to how they shut them down.
The gulf in quality was massive. It was almost like watching
those friendlies against the younger teams last year at times.
Hull just met a brick wall, most of the time they were just
driven back so they had to kick away their possession. They hung
in there for 50 to 60 minutes but as they got tired and our subs
came on we just ran away with it. Could easily of been more,
maybe 2 or 3 tries left on the field.

It felt Great to be back at the Club and once again standing in
the Shed. The last 12 months are now just a Memory. I have to
admit that I felt quite emotional with the number of people who
welcomed me back with such kind words and I Thank each of you.
The training sessions that the Players have put in will have
helped with their Strength, Stamina and Speed. Any short games
they have played within the Squad will have helped with their
Game Play and Understanding of each other. All that is Good, but
it's not the same as playing against another Club.
For a " First Game " of the season I thought that this was an
excellent all round performance. Ionians played well and kept
trying to the end, but they were outplayed in every area of the
game.
There was some very good performances from our Lads with, I'm
sure, more to come. Two more games / results like this one and
their confidence should be high when they meet Sale in the First
League Game of the season. Here's hoping that the Club have a
Successful Season.

Really enjoyable game and it was good to see the new lads
settling in well. Great to have the team list so we can start to
put names to faces.
Have to agree with the comments already posted; some of our new
recruits look very promising.
For me, I was impressed with how we treated the game. We have
previously tried to give everyone a game in friendlies and
consequently lost to Ionians, etc. This time it felt like a
serious match, like the tone for the season was being set - no
subs at half time, continuing to push right to the final
whistle, not giving anything sloppy away. Shows the professional
attitude at the top.
