What were we doing to give so many penalties away and get two
yellow cards?

Penalties, cards, yes, but we also knocked-on a number of times
when we were about to score.
First half defence looked ok, but their scrum was definitely on
top. We got the edge in the scrum later in the second half.
They scored 2 driving maul tries, which we couldn't even slow
down let alone stop.
The ref was puzzling at times: not sure why Joe Barker got his
card, and he blew the whistle as soon as they scored - zero
injury time despite 2 lengthy injuries. But that is irrelevant.
Lineout generally worked better. Seb Nagle -Taylor looks very
good and I thought Henry Roberts looked sharp 1st half.
Could do with kicking back-up.
We'll see what's what next week.

I didn’t expect after the hype of the last few weeks to lose to
a club near the bottom of the league below us.

Will hold my thoughts until next week. Agree though top 6 should
be a realistic objective. True to say yesterday should have been
much easier for a competitive national 1 side. Young lads phrase
coming out already - hope 'by christmas' doesn't follow
otherwise I will have to resurrect 'dejavu' 😂

Reflections on the performance at Wharfedale -
It may be a touch generous to call it a mixed bag but
anyway.......
NEGATIVES
Driving maul was a shambles both in attack & defence (if only we
had a forwards coach with experience of a successful driving
maul side like Leeds - oh hang on)
Lineouts misfired far too often & set scrums virtually crumbled
at times
Discipline was poor - too many penalties given away, compounded
by being marched back 10 for backchat!
Down to 13 in crucial periods either side of half time & Seb was
very lucky not to get a yellow as well
We need a back up for kicking duties - both from tee and hand
was poor - not finding touch from penalties etc
Butchered probably half a dozen further try scoring
opportunities!
POSITIVES
Created probably half a dozen further try scoring opportunities!
Defence in open play was really good!
We may have a "find" in Henry Roberts - excellent under the high
ball & tackled & ran well
I know it's early days with a young squad but I hope the
forwards have been working hard this week & the backs continue
to build on the promise that they've shown
